I believe the 99's have them, correct? If so I have 230,000 miles on mine. Out of curiosity, what are the signs of a dying apps or a dead one?

Dying - surging (holding a steady speed/throttle, and the truck lurches forward, or dies off - frequently), dead spots in the throttle, sitting at idle, the RPM's will ramp up 50 to 250 for a second and back to normal. May or may not set codes.

Dead - no throttle response, MIL on and codes set.

I think all CTD's have them in the Dodge truck application.

45k and showing signs of death. Oddly enough, right after the VP44/LP replacement.

As asked in another thread - do guys see the same symptoms when running with the cruise control on? I think earlier trucks used a vacuum/mechanical CC, which would still rely upon the APPS for fuel control, where later trucks are fully electronic, and the APPS *might* not be in the throttle circuit when CC is engaged - dunno where the changeover took place...

62. 5K - Intermittent problems began last summer at about 45K – pullout in 2nd gear hit third and it would start to yodel, blow gray & black smoke - pump the pedal and it would steady up and start to pull again. A recalibrate of the APPS has cleared the worst of it but it will still happens on occasion when I am pulling the 5’er at altitudes above 4000 feet. I am watching the autopsy of an APPS thread with much interest.

For Gary – I don’t *think* its ever happened with cruise on but I’m a 5 speed and anyplace but the flatlands the cruise is off.

103k, intermittent slight problems for 3-4k now. Just now setting codes. Only noticed on acceleration--well except for the occasional meaningless throttle fluctuation. I never use cruise.

60k+

Been intermittent for the last 10k miles, but cleaned it up and so far so good; the symptoms were my go pedal started to have a mind of its own - a bit scary the first time!

I had to replace mine yesterday. :mad:

75K miles on the clock now. The TPS has had problems for the last 2 years. I had drilled a small hole in it's back and gave it a shot with contact cleaner when the symptoms got worse. That always helped for a while. Not this time. I would loose throttle response 5-6 times in a mile now. Time to spend them bucks.

The TPS was 586 Euro @ the local Chrysler dealer.

That's 710US$!!!:{
