97,000 on my dually, no problems, still shifts great. That is 97k with 94k of that hooked to a 34' gooseneck, half of that loaded to 15k lbs and the other half coming back empty with the 8k lb trailer.

My '03 QC went 67k miles and lunched a transmission. It was blamed on the fan clutch not engaging which caused the trans to overheat. The light never came on  Anyway, DC replaced it and I don't really think it was a failing of the trans itself.

No problems on my '05 up to 36k miles and no problems on the '06 up to 27k so far.

I had problems with the Allison in my '03 Chev, GM fought me on it, I traded it for the '05 Dodge and haven't looked back :p

My 48RE was fine until about 122,000 when, while pulling the 5er, one of the six bolts that hold the torque converter to the flex plate backed out and broke off as it hit the bell housing. Still don't know why it backed out unless the TC was too hot from pulling the camper - really no idea. $5,600 later it shifts great! DTT from stem to stern w/ billet input and a giant bucket of Amsoil ATF held in the Mag Hytec double-deep pan.

43,000 miles with no problems.

Seems like most people are having really good luck with the 48RE.

I run a Bully Dog Power Pup on the Performance setting every day. I usually drive the truck easy, just keeping up with the morning commute and trying to get some decent MPG. About 80% of my milage is highway. I'll robably put 20k mi on the truck this year. Every now and then I'll play around with a Power Stroker and run WOT up to 80-90. Trans shifts fine, and highway temps (sensor in pan) never go over 160 (85* outside - summer) and 135 (60* outside - winter)

Question: How's the 48RE longevity with a performance box like my Bully Dog?

The reason I ask is that if the trans (stock, no performance box) is capable of reliably pulling 10k+ pounds, why couldn't I take the trailer off and put another 100 lbs ft of torque to it (Bully Dog)??

Am I out of line?

we will see im at 110,550 shes 1 year old to the day so far so good like the way it shifts but dont like the converter when she dies DTT all the way my 97 had 200,000 on my DTT so will repeat when this one dies

12K and works like a champ...

I like the tow/haul mode. I had a 5 speed in the last truck and like to make it work down low. The tow haul mode shift adaption/logic works well. :D

It gives an early up-shift, holds O/D on acceleration and has the down shift to help slow/stop the wagon. Still needs an engine brake for the big stuff.

The 06 automatic can be fitted with one too. ;)

Interested in another truck for the signifcant other. She wants one with an auto. I just want to know how they are holding up. She will run it stock and we will tow maybe 15000lbs every now and then.

My 2004 and my 2006 have the 48RE transmissions and to date not problems.

On the 04, I have about 36,000 miles and have towed my 32' 5th wheeler to Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Texas. I've towed the trailer about 29,000 miles out of the 36,000 miles on the speedometer.

All, I've done is to change the transmission oil and filter before I leave on a trip and change engine oil and filter while on the trips.

My 06 only has about 8,900 miles on it, but come this summer, I plan on putting about 14,000 miles on it through the USA, Canada and Alaska.

Can't wait to pull with the new truck. It pulls better than the 04 truck and works great with the factory installed exhaust brake.

Your significant other will love the auto. :)

Drive safely

I've got a 48re behind a stout little 12 valve in a 97 with about 15,000 miles and no problems. I pull a 26' interstate enclosed trailer and an Arctic Fox slide in camper with no problems. My old 47 was overheating and slipping terribley with that much load but this new trans and torque converter are kicking butt. My new o6 is pretty sweet too. I'm sold on autos. ;)
