Thanks, TDR Staff

Only in Alaska...

Any Locksmiths in the house?

Thanks guys, this is interesting!

Hey guys, Thanks a bunch for all the responses, it is really interesting hearing about everyone's experiences!:D :D :D

Any Rotor Wing Pilots?

I am not a pilot of any sort, but I don't think I saw any helicopter pilots in this thread, unless I missed you. At the last place I worked, before striking out on my own, we had a Cessna 206 with an aerial camera hatch and a Robinson R-22 helicopter with a camera hatch for aerial photography. The company holds the F. A. A. Standard Type Certificate for this modification, and AFAIK there has been only one R-22 ever modified in this fashion. Read about the low level photography process here under the L. A. M. P. heading.

We had a pilot on staff qualified to operate both aircraft. I spent a fair amount of time in the R-22, way more fun than a fixed wing :D .

Been flying since 1982. About 350 VFR hours, so far. Owned a C182N for years; sold it a while ago. Been flying C172M lately, and have a Van's RV-7A kit that I'm gonna start on in September. Leaving next Friday for Arlington WA to start two week flying vacation. Life's tough! :D:D:D

Mostly C172's and C182's but a PA28-140 on occasion too. Partial A/C owner also. If your ever at Auburn Municipal (S50) in Washington and theres a white Ram with a hwite canopy, stop in and I'll buy you a beverage.

Air Force Time

I've got about 3700 hrs flying Uncle Sam's airplanes around. T-38's, B-52G/H's and now the E-4B (747-200). :D Went to United's Denver TK facility and got my 747 type rating and ATP completion in May and June. It doesn't get any better than this!

SEL A&P IA stopped counting hours since I flew mainly maintenance flights. I have flown everything from ultralights up to 182,s and just about all the piper models. I have done engine overhauls on everything from the O-200 to the TIGO-541. My dad has his pilots license, and I was flying airplanes before I sat behind the wheel of a car. One time I got to fly a Hiller Helicopter. I did OK, right up to the hover part.

While you guys are here, a guy at work just got back from a trip to Chicago. He took a commercial airliner. He was asking me how fast the plane gets going on the runway to take off. I said 100mph? He said he has drivin that fast, but this seemed much faster.

How fast in mph does the plane go when it reaches crusing attitude also?

He is curious. :)

Private pilot (grounded) Built and flew a Dragonfly. Went to Oshkosh in 85 and Dayton Airshow in 86. After several close calls and many ground loops I cut up the canard intending to rebuild with inboard gear. Never got around to fixing it and sold it. Last I heard it was in the Denver area. Great experience, took me about 2 yrs to build it.

V1 (takeoff decision speed), VR/V2 (takeoff speed)

The Boeing 767 I flew today was about 145,000lbs

below max gross takeoff weight on both legs of

our Houston/Newark/Houston trip. Our speeds were:

V1 123 Knots (141 MPH)

VR 127 K (146 MPH)

V2 132 K (152 MPH)

The takeoff weight was about 260,000lbs.

We were flight panned at . 82 mach, or 490 kts

true airspeed (563 MPH) at 37,000 ft. Take in

to account the winds at altitude, which generally

blow west to east, and in the jet stream at speeds

of 100 to 200 MPH, and our Ground Speed will

increase or decrease accordingly.

The FAA mandates that all aircraft do

not exceed 250 Knots indicated below 10,000 feet.

Above that we accelerate to our flight planned

speed. At the lower flight levels, indicated speed

can be as high as 350 Knots.

Maximum altitude is 41,000 ft.

Maximum Mach is . 84, or 84 % of the speed of sound

at altitude.

Pretty cool huh? :D

I am!

Built my first 2 planes, then, fly by myself out in the dessert. Then I got my license in 1979.

Flew most Cessna’s or my own home built’s.

Not actively flying any more.

My instructor said there were only 2 kinds of pilots, those that have had engine failure and those that at going too.

I stopped flying before my engine did.

Commercial,Instrument,Multi,Rotorcraft, 6,000 PIC, Aircraft Dealer for 20 years, have bought and sold (not brokered) over 500 aircraft. From the fall of 1987 thru the summer of 1989 I bought 120 aircraft in the So. Cal. area and shipped them back east. I made several flight schools real mad... .....

Military rotary wing pilot, FAA Rotary wing, Instrument Rotary Wing. Qualified in the Bell 206 (OH-58A/C), Bell 212 (UH-1H), Sikorsky H60 (UH-60A). Over 1700 hrs and 250 Night Vision Goggle hours, The only way to fly undetected!!

Preparing to retire in 10 months and looking for employment in Idaho, Wyoming or Montana (hint).

Got whoopping 6 hours behind the controls, just started to learn, but I have spent at least 1500 hrs riding. I'm a full time skydiving instructor, 3100 jumps. If you can take the door off, I'm in or should I say out!  I survived a single otter crash last March, no fun... ... ... .

I am retired now but flew helicopters for living. Bell 206. Also in the military to include 20 years Pa National Guard flying Bell and finished in the Cobra, ergo the handle that I use. I also have a sel but too expensive to pay to fly. I liked being paid.

I'm an air traffic controller, 4 yrs Marines, about 20 FAA. I've worked at Addison Tower, Dallas Love Tower, San Antonio and have been at DFW TRACON (approach control) for the last 12 yrs. I still love my job and it's a blast to work busy traffic. I really like working thunderstoms. You can be creative and have to think when things are out of the ordinary. It's a great feeling when a pilots says "thanks and good job" when your vectoring them through weather.

I finished school (shields Aviation charter141, Craig field,FL. ) in 1992. Commercial, Single and Multi-engine land, Instrument. I have flown Cessna 150,152, 172,210, 170 (taildragger. . . once!) Piper Trauma-hawk, Warrior, Seneca. Couldn't afford to get my Instructor ticket and couldn't find work with only 250 hours, so I made my last flight in a Warrior out of Fryeburgh Maine, October of '93. What a beautiful last flight, Mt. Washington, Kezar Lake. . . :( I miss it. A guy I work for, occasionally, owns a C-310 (c) and said he would take me up when there is time. I won't hold my breath, but will keep dreaming.

In the Navy I was a Helo Crewman, (SH-60B SeaHawks)Blew a knee out doing a practice SAR jump while in the RAG (HSL-40 Airwolves, ASW, Mayport FL. ) Only one incident, Our Helo. decided to go into automatic blade fold when we started to taxi. It is kinda' like being inside a freshly beached King Salmon as he tries to get back in the water:D

Love to FLY

justme,if you can,try to fly or ride by Tuskegee airporton on a Sat or Sun. The man in charge is C. S. M. Charles(Buddy)Blue. You will have to beat the skydivers back away from your helicopter. Just kidding. The guys really like to jump a copter.

About half the men there are Rangers or Special Forces.

BFC did you get to go to World free fall?
