Guy's, I'm working on something for us but I need to know how many have had or now have throttle shaft leaks, sticking guide pins, and so forth...

I got a little project that may help us all out...

Just let me know if this pertains to you...

Pastor Bob.

My pin was sticky when I received my truck, which has had the injection pump replaced with new. Must be a real problem. I thought it would be limited to older pumps:confused:

I had a throttle shaft leak, its a pretty easy fix, not much more involved than putting in a new governor spring...

mine started to leak when I was checking throttle travel, but then mysteriously healed itself. Did I overextend the lever?? Would an intermittent leak be a sign of an eventual permanent one? Help dudes!

Yes my throttle shaft is leaking even after new seal would really be interested if you can come up with a fix.

My throttle shaft is leaking, but it seems to come and go; not that bad yet. I had a guide pin stick on a 93 I got one time. I called PDR, talked to Harry (not Piers), and he kind of guided me (pun intended) through how to get it unstuck, and if that didnt work, try this, etc. I ended up taking the top section off, and using a flat screwdriver to pop the guide pin loose. Then took some PB Blaster, and sprayed it liberally, put some synthetic grease on the pin itself, and moved it back and forth until it would move freely. Put it back on the truck, and it ran good ever after. I didnt remove the AFC housing to do any more adjusting or tweaking, though.

The 93 W350 I had is leaking, too, but I havent been able to get ahold of the guy about it, either. Think his pump needs a complete seal kit by now.

Pastor-

If you need someone to do some R&D; I'll be a guinea pig. Just PM or email me, and let me know.

Hey how do you tell if your guide pin is sticking and could it be sticking when the truck is hot but not when its cold? my truck seems to loose power as it warms up.

SamsRams, that is exactly how my leak started, one day after manually cycling the throttle shaft while checking linkage and TPS, and it did not leak right away, only after 20 miles or so it would start leaking, if I stabbed the go pedal a couple of times the leak would stop. The only way I knew it was leaking was because I could smell it, if I waited to get where I was going all evidence around the engine of the leak would be gone, I could see some wet marks on the chassis though, I would replace the bushing, shaft, and seal, not just the seal, judging from the wear on my shaft and bushing I would have had continued leaks if I had just replaced the seal.

I'd think if anything, it'd be more likely to stick when cold, and less so when hot. There is something in the back of my mind that would cause your loss of power as it got warmed up. Help me out guys, I'm having a senior moment, and I'm only 25!! You over the hill gang know what I'm talking about.....

Hey guys,

I found my problem today when I pressure tested my intake from the turbo. My intercooler is hissing like crazy at 20 psi. I installed a temporary boost gauge and I am only getting 15 psi at full throttle when the truck is warm. I'll have to see what happens in the morning when its cold.

My shaft started leaking about 1 month after i replaced a worn throttle spring. Then it quit for about 5 months then when it started again it was really bad flowing diesel insted of a drip. So thats when i upgraded to the B. D. 230 H. P. pump... ... .

Mine was leaking in December, but has stopped since (I tightened the nut on the fronot of the pump with a flat punch about 2-cm), runs fine, good fuel mileage, average 18. 30mpg. Power the same-stock. Patrick.

My throttle shaft was weeping many years ago, and repaired under warranty . Dodge dealer removed pump and sent it to Cummins of Saginaw for a rebuild. Dodge mech. said it wasn't a leak unless it dripped on the ground. Sevice Manager said "fix it". Factory seals (to prevent adjustments) were removed and red thick "paint" replaced the seals.
