I don't believe you'll get many responses on this one. Evaporators rarely go bad. Now, if you'd asked about condensors, I'm sure you'd get some responses.

Sorry Doc, but I might have to disagree with you I can remember many threads where members have complained about the evap. leaking, and needing replacement.

Doc; the shops down here stock many Mopar evaporators. Seems when the leak detection doesn't find the leak, it's almost always evaporators. There are Dodge trucks getting evaporator replacements every timne I go there. It's mostly 98-99's are starting to go now. He looked at mine and said it's already been replaced (I bought it used).

I guess I'm disappointed that the quality of DC products has dropped to the point where evaporators become an issue. The evaporators are probably the most protected (shielded) component on the vehicle.

Most automotive evaporators are relativly trouble free,but DC has had a lot of problems. We replace them frequently on the Rams and Jeep Cherokee's. Seemed to be worse in the 96-98 model years,and have been improving since then. We actually stopped using the dealer units and switched to aftermarket,after having several leak after only 5-6 months.



Also R134 is much more corrosive than the older R12 which can eat them out from the inside,reducing the lifespan of the component.

I think this is something that has been a Chrysler bug for quite a while. Had a 95 Concord that had one replaced under a recall. A 98 Wrangler was done under warranty. So far no probs with the Ram.

Evaporators on the Dodges will usually start to leak after about 5-6 years. I used Super Seal to fix mine. Kit costs about $20. I did mine about 1 month ago and it is still blowing just as cold. It gets down to 48 degrees. Previously, after charging it, it would blow cold for about 5 days and hold a partial charge for about 10 days. I had promised to post results after I ran this for one month on another thread and will do so in the Products forum.

Is SuperSeal something that you put in the system? If so, I'd like to hear from you AC guys on the advisability of that!
