The mechanical lift pumps on the 12 valve engines create a strong pulse that will damage a gauge and or sending unit if its electric. A gauge snubber is a fitting with a very small orifice that dampends the pulses. A needle valve will do the same thing only better IMO because it can be adjusted down even more or shut the fuel off completely in the case of a leak. I personally run a brass needle valve that can be bought at most any hardware or parts store. I crank it down to the point that my guage needle is still even at an idle when the pump pulses are at their worst. I drilled and tapped the banjo bolt on the P7100 injection pump after the fuel filter so I can monitor how dirty the fuel filter is.
