Just curious as to how many of you are using this oil. I just changed over about 2500 miles ago and notice the engine does run quieter and did not get as black as quickly ( THis is on my 06). There is another Syn oil thread going and some debate over the need for a 15/40 Synthetic... So how many of you are using it in your rigs??? thanks!

I used it up until I got this 06. I am using the Amsoil HDD 5W30 in this truck, to squeeze that extra little bit. But, in my previous 3 CTD's Amsoil 15W40 every 15k miles.

I changed over with about 7500 miles on the truck. I know some don't change over until 15,000 or so, but I had used the truck to tow quite a bit and putting a really good load on it... Mechanic told me that my rings were well seated, etc. . Hope that helps... ;)

on my '98, i changed over at 100k. Now change every 15k or one year. Runs good, would recommend synthetic especially in colder climates... I'm now running 120k and no problems. If you're not doing it, go for it. Do an oil analysis if you are curious to how things are going before changing it too...

ps. if you do go extended drains with synthetic, i'd recommend changing the filter half way between changes. e. g. one year or 15k, i change the filter at 6 months or 7500k miles... just my method. good luck

Unless you live in a cold climate I believe the 15w40 is better. I tried 5w30 in my 2001 once and the wear metals shot up considerably compared to 15w40. Had noticeably more blowby on my 50,000 mile truck. Iron went from around 48 ppm to 88 on my sample. As soon as I went back to 15w40 the iron numbers went right back down. I attribute the elevated numbers to the 110 degree weather we had that summer and the 5w30 being too light for it. Others using 5w30 haven't had issues using it and have gotten better sample numbers compared to 15w40, but that wasn't my experience.

By the way Roper you better post quick - ya got 666 "miles" on your "postometer" ;)

i run the 15-40 marine in virtually everything. truck, 2 caravans, lawn mowers.

never any problems. even down to zero degrees has not been an issue.

I run it in mine, switched over at about 80K and haven't looked back. As a matter of fact, I have about 13K on it right now.

Just switched at 91k to 15w-40, turned pitch black by next check a few hundred miles later. I even did the Amsoil Engine Flush. Two bottles idling for 15 minutes. Amsoil nanofiber oil filter too. Not going to change anything for another 25,000 miles.

I switched over to the Amsoil 15W40 at 15K with no issues. It does smell for a few hundred miles, but I kind of like it. I did try the Delvac 5W40 and the engine seemed to run louder, so now I am back to the 15W40 without a worry.

I RUN THE 15/40 AMSOIL , I CHANGE OIL EVERY 10,000 MILES - I HAVE IT IN EVERYTHING I OWN , TRACTOR , LAWNMOWER , WIFE'S GAS TRUCK . I EVEN RAN IT IN MY OLD ALKY ( 721 CID ) PULLING TRUCK , THATS WHERE I FOUND OUT THE STUFF REALLY WORKS , BUT LIKE ANYTHING ELSE EVERYONE WILL HAVE THERE BRANDS THEY STAND BEHIDE:-{}

I run it. My intrest is more in the way the oil is designed to sit for longer periods. It has more PH buffers. During the warmer (dryer) months my BMW gets more use then my truck.

I ran it a couple of different times in my 99 dodge cummins but keep going back to regular oils as I never seen any of the claims made by the manufacturer. Except maybe cold flow characteristics up here in the cold north country.

Why have I tried Amsoil 15-40 a couple different times? Because of threads like this one. Everyone just wants to be a part of the flock. :rolleyes:

I have been running it in my 2003 since about 7500 miles (Now I have75,000). I usually change it every 10,000 miles, I know I could go longer, but I feel like I get my money out of it at 10,000. In fact I run Amsoil in my diffs, trans, and transfer case as well! Great oil, I use Amsoil in everything! I started using in my snowmobiles years ago, and since then it has found its way into every engine I own.

P. S. I'm not a dealer, I'm just a believer.
