I have the same noice and vibration. They occur at and above 1950 RPM. The noise is a continuous WOW WOW WOW that sounds like propellors out of synch on a multi-engine airplane. On my truck the noise is far more objectionable than the vibration. I can't drive the truck at that RPM for longer than a few minutes or I get a whopping headache. The bad news is that 70 MPH and up is unuseable. The good news, it saves fuel.

BUT, it is unsat for a truck that co$t$ so much. The local dealer has been GREAT. They have bent over backwards trying to fix it, done everything Chrysler has asked... even had their ace mechanic take the truck off to some mechanic training and the Chrysler gurus couldn't figure it out.

I am starting the lemon law process as it has been 4 repairs without resolution in the first 11 months of ownership. Not only can I not drive at normal highway speed here, no telling what long term problems can be casued by the noise and vibration.

Too bad. Its a great truck.

When do these high spd vibe's develop?

Does the vibration problem develop with time or if the truck doesn't have it when new, it pretty much is ok long term unless one mod's the truck causing it?

And if it develops with time could it be due to suspension parts wearing?

Hi Bob:

The truck has had this since new,and 20K miles later there is no change in the problem or the RPM range where it develops.

The dealer has confirmed it's there numerous times, has told me I'm not crazy, and that Chrysler doesn't have a fix.

Fortunately, it does not seem to appear on many trucks. Unfortunately, my truck is one that has the mysterious problem.

Knowing that this problem exists I would advise everyone to test drive in the 1950 - 2300 RPM range (low to mid 70s) before buying one to make sure your unit is ok.

Fixed!!

The truck that is, not me... ;)

Back to the local Dealer this week after replacement of the front drive shaft made little difference to the vibe.

Removed and replaced the rear shaft, took it for a test drive and the "automatic back massager" as they had called it was gone.

The truck is smoother than it has ever been, I'm very relieved. I became almost obsessed with that damn vibration, everytime I got close to the speed that the vibe would occur I would get apprehensive and annoyed.

I will give the Dealers' service manager credit, he persisted in trying to find the problem until I was happy.

Mine was there from the beginning. It hasn't changed much in the 19,000 miles since. When they worked on it they made it worse. What a pity, especially since I really was comfortable in the truck and loved the Cummins. Not to mention that they assessed me $7698 usage fee when they ordered DC to buy it back. DC should be required to buy back EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE TRUCKS!! Maybe that will teach them not to sell us vehicles with known problems. They're no better than the thief who steals something from you or cheats you in some other way. All that said, I am thinking of buying another vehicle from them, only because there really isn't anything else available to do what I need. Now that I know how the LL process works, I'm less intimidated by these thieves.

If every single buyer of a new Ram Diesel were to follow this excellent advice, this problem would disappear overnight. Thousands of these things sitting on dealer lots unsold would get some attention. Don't become another victim, road test before you buy as described above.

Been following this thread for awhile, as I have a new one being delivered mid March...

Most of the problems seem to be with SRW Auto 4X4, unless the dually guys just haven't chimed in. MY new one is a 6 speed dually. Never the less... I will take it for a good test drive before accepting the truck... ;)

Back on this subject again... I was looking at the GMCs the other day and the rear driveshaft has a huge disc around the pinion yoke; kind of like a harmonic balancer. I was just wondering if the purpose of this thing was to eliminate vibrations, if it works and should I have a rear driveshaft made with one for my truck? My vibration seems to be getting worse... still between 70-75mph but it's starting to rattle the change in my ashtray. Does anyone have any ideas on these things?

My 05 has a harmonic balancer on the rear shaft. It's also at the dealer for the vibe. I'm waiting to get it back after the front shaft is balanced or replaced. With the front shaft removed the vibe goes away.

Ereynolds72, My rear driveshaft has the round steel harmonic balancer-like steel disk on it located just behind the front u-joint & slip yoke. (03 H-O, 6 spd standard, Q-cab, s-bed) Not sure when these were added or which trucks come equiped with them.

When the Dealer replaced the shaft solving my vibration problem, they postulated that the disk may have shifted somehow on the shaft. I believe something like that must have been happening as the vibration in my truck kept getting worse as time went by.

I have 2100 miles on mine, and no (hopefully no) vibration yet... . Does miles on the truck have anything to do with it?

At least it sounds like most of you have been dealing with dealers that are willing to "try" and get rid of your vibe. My dealer has refused to do anything and after waiting 43 days for an appintment with the area rep today ,he stood me up!! no answer other than he might be in tomorrow. I wish some one here could give me a meaningful phone number I could call and raise cain. Not the 1-800 number or the DC e-mail address, they have been atotal waste of time.

GTX,

Yes I've tried it but it didn't help at all. My truck is still at the dealer where it has been for over 3 weeks now. They are, I believe trying every thing they can to correct this. I don't think the vibe mine has is as bad as what others have posted.

If it still has the vibe when I get it back I think I may call a lemmon law lawyer for some legal advice.

Haven't posted in a long time, this is the 3rd 3500 for me and the 1st with the dreaded vibe. I have had front/rear driveshafts replaced, tires balanced, carrier bearing angle changed, still have the vibe. Sent off my lemon law notice last week :(... I just hope they can fix it because I don't want to go searching for another truck.

My 02 regular cab has it from exactly 75 and quits at exactly 85. It has had it since new. removed front driveline, no change. My dealer blames the tires. Changed to 17 inch wheels and tires, no change. I would not even use Sunnyvale Dodge to wash my truck.
