How much boost will sotck headgasket hold with just studs?

If I replace the stock head bolts with studs and torque them to 125#s, how much more boost will the stock gasket hold? Has anyone tried that?

Come on guys Im curious too, Comp forum might be a good spot for this question also. I've heard 55lbs on stock headbolts is no problem, but I have no idea if you add studs.

stock head gasket safe around 45-47#'s, pushing to about 50#' is dangerous. I don't think your'e going to get more then that with studs maybe 55#'s, it's a crap shoot, the fire ring is the week spot and I'm not sure how much more studs help in that area. . on my 2001, I O-ringed the head and replaced with stock gasket and bolts and would run 57-60#'s and had no problems. Just my $. 02 worth.

The 3rd Gen MLS gaskets can handle 65psi with stock bolts and 80+ with ARP studs. The MLS gasket is a lot different than the 2nd gen gaskets. Lots of guys are running twins with stock bolts and pushing 65psi daily with few problems. I installed studs last week so that I don't have to worry about it when I get my twins

Tasha's Evil Twin...

I lifted the head on Tasha's truck at 80 psi. It sealed itself rt back up but not before pressuring up the coolant system



Anyways that was with ARP Studs at only 96 ft pounds of torque.



Now that same truck has the head studs at 127 ft pounds and 80psi is no problemo...



We made the best of the visual inspection(head off) and went ahead and ported it and installed a DON M Cam and springs.



We just pulled down a 2001 motor that was seeing WAY more than 60 psi with firerings and it was holding no prob. The aftermarket valve springs were junk... 3 Broken!!!



I learned to source those from reputable mfg's.

i too see 64 psi daily and have no troubles yet, also with stock bolts and gaskets

I have about 6 hooks (thats sledpulling)@ 50psi with no issues so far.

Drive pressures can be as (if not more) damaging as high boost pressures.
