How Much Can The Blue Wire Take?

To date I have about 5 taps on the 12v ignition on supply; e-brake,pressureloc, and three gauges. Just how many times can you tap this source, and are there alternate sources, before you start effecting other components on this circuit. I mean, it can only take so much.

If you're worried about it you should get a fuse tap and get power from a fuse that comes on with the ignition. That's one option. Another is a painless wiring kit, genos garage has them.

It should be fairly easy to have one of the taps on the blue wire trigger a 30 or 40 amp relay connected to one of the batteries. Then you would have a 30 or 40 amp key-on source.

I don't think the problem is how much the blue wire can take,it can take a lot. The problem would be if say your e-brake shorted out,it would blow the main fuse/breaker and make your truck un-drivable. You are better off to add on a homemade or Geno's painless kit so that each different tap has it's own fuse,even if they all come off the blue wire.

Eastwood has nice high quality fuse taps. I have 1. Better than just the blade you stick in with the fuse. They can be a pain to get in straight. Order the 'mini' ones if interested. #ad

You can get them at Auto Zone or Pep Boys for $4 to $6 and they come with fuses. They are only good for 10 amps max.

I have one of those tap and am going to use it to trigger the painless wiring block... no muss no fuss.

Fuse taps are fine, but as a matter of personal preference I think the idea Thomas presented is the best option. Use the blue wire to trigger a relay which will power a fuse block, and then use a fuse block for all the connections. IMO this is the "cleanest way to go about this, plus will will have an ignigition "hot" source for any other add-ons.

Thomas' way is the best. Triggering a relay is the safest and most reliable way to go. Avoid any sort of fuse tap--I have seen many of them go bad, and they also damage the existing fuse terminals. #ad

I ran a fused hot wire from the power center to under the dash and mounted a aluminum plate with 4 hot fuses and 4 fuses that run off of a relay that is fired by the blue wire. Works great and cost about $8. 00
