Competition building driveshaft loops for pulling

Hey guys,

Just curious how many of you who pull sleds are still running your stock rear and/or front drivelines? I have about 300 rwhp and wanted to know at what point one should consider going to a bigger driveline or even carrier bearing? I also am running 37" super swampers on my dually so there is a little extra weight being thrown at those drivelines.

I know you'll probably say just weld in a loop, which I plan on doing before the Sept. 19th pull out here in So. Cal but I thought I would ask how many of you have thrown a driveline with a tuned 12v like mine.

Thanks, Joe

basically stock on mine--I did change over to a Dana 80 2yrs ago when I broke an axle--you have a ways to go before you need to worry--hopping though can kill it, so beware if you start to hop--loops are a smart thing no matter what HP---chris

Yeah, I have had a hopping experience one time with my old '71 big block powered Chevy, but it smoothed out right away once i got going.

Thanks for the experienced advice, Chris. Good to hear someone else who has pulled with the stock drivelines and has a decent amount of power putting to them. Definately going to plan on the loop before the event so I don't take someone's head off if the shaft decides it's time to let go(knock on wood:) ).

BTW, what gears do you run, Chris? Is your truck lifted at all? Larger than stock tires?

Also, anyone with a loop on their truck, where did you put it? Before or after the carrier bearing? Or both? Pics would be great if anyone has them. :D

Thanks, Joe

Thanks Chris, I saw tthe pics of you loops front and rear on another thread above this one. Great lookin' set-up but is it necessary for the front loop? How many front driveshafts have you seen get tossed and how many people run front loops along with the rear?

Do you off-road you truck or just pull with it? It looks like you have quite an amount of travel with those loops.
