How much did you spend last month?

Since May 8, I have about 7400 miles on the odo. That's 7400 miles in one month. By far the most I've ever logged. There has probably been 2-300 of those miles w/o a trailer. I haven't been tracking mileage religiously, but I know I'm somewheres close to 10mpg avg. Some over, some under. That's roughly 740 gallons at a guestimated average of $4. 50/gallon. The fuel I had at home was less, but I filled up on the road as high as $4. 77.

This is obviously a very rough guess, but 740 gallons at $4. 50 comes to $3330 in one month for my little pickup.

Ouch.

I have to give credit to my customers though. Not a single one has complained about the increase in trucking cost. My trips have gotten longer because the South Saint Paul stockyards closed and that was my main run. So they get hit with longer trips and higher fuel costs all at once. Heck, most guys ask me if I'm charging enough.

I have been trying to keep my truck parked as much as possible and the fact business is a little slow has helped and about half the work I have for now is all meat and greats and planing meeting so I take my girl friends Crossfire when I need no tools. but I'm about to get hit with alot of work and will be logging about 5 to 6k a month. Because of that i just bought a 2wd jeep XJ for 800 bucks to use when I don't need to haul anything big and heavy and with the right pieces I should get about 22 to 23 mpg and 87 octane is much cheaper.

The wife and I hooked-up the trailer and headed south. We were Avg. 13 MPG and fuel was at that time AVG. $4. 30 a gallon. I thought to myself that's not bad. But then I thought I would figure my mileage another way. Miles per Dollar, Then I got REALLY DEPRESSED. I was only getting 3. 02 miles per dollar. Now that really hurts to figure your mileage that way. And now that fuel is up to $4. 79 my old 1997 is sitting in the shop all waxed and cleaned up looking pretty. But can't afford to go anywhere.

For me at 10mpg it's really easy to see miles in dollar figures instead. 1 mile at $4. 50 = $0. 45 per mile.

Just as an interesting side note: When my dad bought his 1990 cummins in 94', it cost him only $. 05 per mile at 20 mpg to run it. By comparison, my car at 48 mpg costs $. 10 per mile. $. 05 per mile at 4% (annual average inflation) would be $. 09 per mile, but this same truck instead costs $. 24 per mile. That amounts to 12% inflation over the last 14 years. That means my Jetta would have cost only $. 002 per mile. Wow!

Your right, I made a mistake in writing it down. I was thinking the right thing.

I have burned about 100 gallons of diesel this year so far. I keep it full of fuel. Will probably use around 200 gallons for the whole year. Still waiting for a 75 mpg car.

i top up my truck every week. it never goes past 3/4 tank now. . last tank was 18mpg hand calculated puttering around in the city. but last month was about $220 [@ average $1. 38/liter]

I did it again. Spent less than $200. 00 last month (June) total on my TDI. ($181. 00 on fuel, with an average of 50mpg. )Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Well, over the last quarter, my big rig ran 49,050 miles at an average of 6. 73 mpg. It burned 7287 gallon of fuel.



At an avg. of $4. 50 per gallon, that'd be $32,791. 50 for fuel (not counting reefer fuel), or almost $11,000 per month.



Glad I no longer have 100 of them ... .

Didn't use as much as TAbbott's big truck, but used 816 gallons in 13281 miles for June in my 03. Comes out to 16. 3 mpg overall. Half miles empty and half towing campers. Total cost about $3650. Wife about freaks when she sees the credit card bill each month!:-laf
