Called the dealership the other day to ask how much for fuel pressure test. The servive manager said he will charge me $75 if they test it and I choose not to let them do the work. If they test it and then need to replace the lift pump then the charge will go on a normal labor ticket. When I asked if he covers the lift pump under warranty he said that depends on the VIN. How much are you guys paying to have yours tested? My truck has 53,000 mi. on it now and at times I feel like I am loosing power at higher rpms. Changed fuel filter about 1000 miles ago.

Fuel pressure test guage

Can't help you on the price from a stealer but if you search in the products area you should find a tests guage setup for less than the $75 and you could test it anytime you want.

Dealer did not charge me, and no special conditions for doing the test. It took less than 30 min. start to finish. Find another dealer. Mileage at test was over 36K which shouldn't matter anyway because it is my understanding the pump if covered under the 100K engine warranty.

I need to get one of the Briar Hopper gauges, but it sounds like this dealer is still going to charge for their diagnosis. I will check with another dealership. Thanks.

if you are not covered by the 5/100K engine warranty you would be covered by the 7/70 emissions warranty, either way you are covered. Get Briars set up I have one and it works great. Tested mine need new pump. took it to dealer and in 30 minutes I had a new lift pump. I think Briars costs $45. 00 plus shipping. Great deal and it is a quality tool.

Absolutely, buy your own gauge from Briar. Mine has already been used to send my truck and a friends for needed warranty work. both times the dealer said - "we'll check, but we're going by our gauge". both times their gauge told us what we already knew. Only takes a few seconds to hook up - less diesel on your hands than you would get during a fuel filter change. Knowledge is Power.
