How much fuel? UPDATED INFO ON PROBLEM

How much do our fuel tanks hold? I think I may have pickup issues. I ran it out of fuel the other day and it only took 18 to fill it and I added 1 gallon to get it from where I was to the fuel stop.

Also will the inj. pump draw fuel on its own if the transfer is bad?

Thanks. Doc

Should be a 31 gallon tank. I put 32 gallons in mine several times and it was still motoring along. I think there is a reserve that is not advertised. Go figure.

Ok so why is my truck not picking up all of the fuel? I could only get 18 gallons in it the other day so I presume that it had 12 or so in it when it "ran out".

Someone may have been into your tank and "repaired" the slide function of the fuel pickup/level sender. Most people think there is something wrong with it and lock the slide. see the attached pic.

Can senders still be bought? If so is it MoPar only? Cost?

The sender is bad as it is and needs replaced, no time like the present.

Yep, either the slide is stuck or somebody has "fixed it" is the usual problem. If you have to replace it you might want to consider a gen2 unit with the larger lines on it. Never know when you might need the extra fuel flow. :-laf

I changed the fuel filter and the transfer pump this weekend... so far so good. It actually seems to have a bit more pep in here step. The real test will be in the morning on the way to work.

Well the pump and filter wasn't the problem it was still filling the filter with air and dying while driving it. So yesterday I put a brand new sending unit... . or as mopar calls it a fuel pump module($315) and as I have said before so far so good. I think the problem lied in the fact that the metal frame on the sending/pick-up unit was rusted and it was stuck in one position, when I bought the truck the guy said he always filled it at 250 miles because if he didnt it would run out of fuel. I hope this fixes it because the only things left in the fuel system to replace are the fuel lines and the tank.
