Just a curious question on how much anyone has spent on their Cummins to get 100k or 200k or more miles out of it. Myself I am on my last truck and it appears if you just change the oil, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter and keep it greased it should last a long time. There are many owners here I am sure who have owned many and have driven many more miles than I ever have but I am wondering what if anything broke on your Cummins during its life cycle with you? Did you ever regret getting rid of your Cummins for another brand or are they all pretty much the same?

I have no regrets and one complaint regarding the expenses incurred in nearly ten years and more than 105,000 short run/ city miles and 3800 engine hours of ownership. The complaint is the failure of the harness for the rear doors. There is absolutely no excuse for that to happen. Your assumption is somewhat accurate regarding diligent maintenance. The variables are where you live, how many and type of mileage you'll put on, and the duty you'll put the truck through. The quality of the components used in current production will have to stand the test of time.

Regarding the age old "which truck is best" debate, Chassis wise, I feel they are all on par- especially since the arrival of Dodge's 45/5500 series. Powertrain wise, GM's Allison trans is impressive, but otherwise the Dodge/ Cummins marriage will go down in history as the all time unbeatable, unrelenting workhorse.

I bought a Ford.....................................................Once, and it cost more in 14 months than all my Dodges combined (and I've owned lots of Dodges)

Have 101,203 on my 02,. Had one VP44 under warranty. 3 Fuel Pumps until I installed a Fass HPFP 95 for around $436.00. The rest has been just normal maintenance such as oil, filter, lube & brakes. Has been a cheap truck to run. 95% of miles was with our 10,000 lbs trailer traveling across country.

I could say the same thing about a brief moment of insanity when I purchased a Silverado. It spent more time at the dealer than in use.

Our Rams have been pretty good. Most issues have been related to front end u-joints, ball joints etc. I think the '04.5 has had 2 sets of each in well over 300K. AC compressor at 200+ K. A couple of sets of brakes. Is going to need an oil pan soon. Has a few spots seeping.

The '07 has had one set of u-joints all aroud and a second one on the right front. 72K Water pump under warranty at 49K

My former '01 was heavily modified and run on the track a lot. Nothing broke that I didn't cause.

My former '92 was untouched when I sold it.

I'm on my 3rd Ram diesel and aside from replacing the usual wearable parts, I only ever had one thing go wrong. My first was a 1998.5 and I put about 85K before I sold it. Then I got an '03. I had 175K on it when I sold it last summer and the only thing that went wrong was a cap on vent tube on the fuel tank module corroded and broke off. Didn't know it till I was refueling one evening and all of the sudden I heard fuel leaking from somewhere. Took it to the dealer the next day and they had to replace the fuel tank module, but at the same time I got the in-tank conversion for the lift pump. Cost me about $750, but that was the only thing I had go bad. I even put a Banks Six-Gun kit on it for better mileage. It was running just fine when I sold it. My miles are all road miles, no towing, but some hauling. My wife is on her second one. She had an '04 and the only problem she had with it was the lift pump went out of it. Cost us a tow plus the replacement with the in-tank conversion. Her '04 had about 95K when we traded it. Neither one of us has ever considered going to a different brand. We've been pleased with the Dodge/Cummins products and have no reason to ever consider anything else.

98 12V Cummins original water pump injection pump and so on. Did the KDP at 100K.

Change oil and all filters and you will be fine.

11 HO has been trouble free for 42K.

on a trip to Atlanta this past weekend, before the snow and ice,my odometer turned over 396,000 mi.i have spent some money, but have a lot of miles, most working/towing miles.couple water pumps,2 clutches, trans rebuild, one of the clutches was responsible for the trans rebuild,u-joints and center carrier once, brakes alaround couple times at least 3 sets of tires, and probaly more stuff i can't remember.installed a 74 gal transfer flow tank and fass 150 right after i got the truck, and i probaly should'nt mention here that i have almost since it was new used k&n filters.i know my motors going to explode any minute.i also am still running origanal injectors and turbo.love the truck!!!!!!!!!!!

I am only at 70,000 miles on my 08 Ram bought new in Nov 07. I have tracked every cent that I have put into the truck for fuel, maintenance and attachments. Some of the attachments are cosmetic and some I feel are necessary for drivability of the truck that should have been factory installed as standard items. I also tow a 5er with the truck during the camping season; April through Oct and have put 24,000 miles on for towing with the 5er attached. So my fuel cost for driving 70,000 miles are; fuel $18,435.73 @ $0.26 a mile; maintenance $4,322.70 @ $0.06 a mile and my attachment cost are $6,473.61 @ $0.09 a mile. Thus a total cost of $29,232.03 or $0.42 a mile to drive my truck.

Oil and oil filter are changed every 5,000 miles; both fuel filters are changed every 10,000 miles and all other maintenance has been done according to the factory recommendations. My repairs/main maintenance items have been RH factory mirror need to be replaced $400. 2 Transmission oil changes with filters and a new Mag-Hytec transmission cover. Front and rear differential oil has been changed twice and both have Mag-Hytec covers on them. The air filter has been replaced twice so far with the Mopar brand of filter. The coolant was changed after 5 years and crankcase filter was changed at 66,700 miles, and one set of Michelin tires.

My 2004 has 140,000 hard towing miles on it. I have done some updates to it but it has never let me down. Did brakes at 120,000 miles, still on the OEM clutch.. Fuel and oil.

My Dodges, '91, '10, and now the '14, have been way cheaper to own than my friends Fords. My neighbor owns the '91 that we bought in '91, has 350k on it. I did brakes and a steering box during the 270k that I owned it. It needed a new clutch when I sold it, but it is still going on the original clutch. The '99 that I had, was junk when I bought it. Should have walked away from it. The 2010, traded it with 52k and did nothing to for repairs. Now to see how the 2014 does. Now my friends Fords, :{ for him!!!! Thousands of dollars in repairs! The worst part is, is he thinks its great!

09 2500, currently have 46k miles. Truck did not have a warranty so I get to buy the repairs.
- turbo
- dpf
- front pinion seal
- rear pinion seal
- one tire pressure sensor
- front end alignment

I have 576000 on my 99 bought new. Over and above normal maintenance , I replaced the VP44 at 458K, I am on my 4th standard lift pump, 1 alternator rebuild and one replacement.. I starter solenoid rebuild. Thats it for the engine

All front end parts are original.. I did drill the ball joints and install grease fittings and grease it after each trip

Biggest problem has been an ongoing fight with the Air Conditioning

I would not even bother to look at the other brands, not because I think they are bad, I just don't see how I could do any better

My '01 had 117k on it when it sold in December. Bought it new in July 2000. The front end was replaced 3 times under the extended warranty. 2011 I had the HD front components installed, along with ball joints, tie rods, etc. 2 lift pumps and one VP44. No engine or trans trouble.

My 98 12V did not have the front end touched until 300K. At that time the drivers side upper ball joint was starting to go out. Also the front axle U joints showed signs of wear. So I decided to replace all ball joints, wheel hub assembles front U joints and axle seals. I used all factory Timken Moog and Dana Spicer parts from Rock Auto.com

All tie rod ends and etc are factory original at 380K. Maybe AMZ/OIL grease is good?

Replaced track bar with DSS 3rd gen adjustable

I was referring to the track bars on my 01. The would wear out aroun 30k. I figured as long as the extended warranty covered it I would keep replacing them with OEM.
