Could someone figure my approximate horsepower number with the mods that i have? PW injectors, 16 cm housing, diaphram in richest position, full fuel screw turned up just to point where idle started to come up, timing at 14*, about 23 # boost loaded. I,ve never had the opportunity to run on a dino.

You are set at just about where I was when I dyno'd at Piers dyno days. Mark is pretty close to what I ran. I ran a 196 bt I was about 560 ft/lbs.

I was thinking about getting old smokies fuel pin which should bring the horsepower up about 20 more. What else can be done to get up to about 250 rwhp which is probably about all my stock trans. can handle? Also, how much difference is there between rwhp and hp at the back of the engine?

Smokie told me 40 hp difference if your diaphram is in stock position, but with my diaphram set in richest profile the new pin would get me about 20 hp more over what i am seeing now.

The amount of HP loss from flywheel to RW is not a fixed amount. Yes the loss through the differential is fixed but the transmission is not. As I understand it, and someone please correct me if I have this wrong, the torque converter has a certain efficiency. With our stock converters, I have heard ~65%. That means the higher your HP, the more you loose. I am in the vicinity of 200 RWHP so my flywheel HP would be just shy of 300. That kind of loss really bites. That also accounts for the tremendous heat buildup we see in our trannys.

The way I understand rear wheel hp losses is that it is proportional to the engine rpm - the higher the rpm, the higher the loss. Over about 5000 rpm the loss is up around 25%. Below 2000 the loss is more like 5-10%. On a diesel the loss is not usually as high as a gasser because we turn about half the rpm. The converter will soak up a bunch of the power. My rig lays down 253 hp and 630 tq to the tires. It was half that before I drove ito PDR's shop... . ;). That is with the mods listed below, and my highway mileage didn't change. Around town is a little less because I'm trying to race everyone now...

My trans is stock except for an aftermarket converter - big difference over stock and worth every penny. It felt great before I bombed the engine, and now though I can feel the transmission wishing is had 228K less miles on it... .

On 9/14/03 I ran my '93 on a Dyno Dynamics dyno down in Portland to get an idea of what in might expect up at Piers later that month. The weather for both runs was almost identical. I ran 325 RWHP in Portland and 353. 7 at Piers - a 28 RWHP difference. The only difference was the addition of Old Smokys eccentric. I know that to get accurate numbers you need to run on the same dyno but this might give you a rough idea of what to expect. Look at my sig for mods.
