GM, how much power you need, is dependant also on how fast you want to pull hills and such. Obviously, the faster you want to go, the more fuel you need.
I don't get to tow at highway speeds very often. I tow mostly farm implements and such. 15-30 mph most of the time. Did haul a big load of lumber for my dad recently. Guessing the loaded trailer weighed around 15k. Truck couldn't have cared less that it was back there. Pulled like it wasn't even there.
Have to watch the EGTs, though. Can get up to 1400* sometimes, even empty.
