Competition 2006 Racin' season

I am really itchin to go back to the 35x12. 50 size tires i had on my old 78 dodge. I liked the stance and it wasn't too extreme for normal highway use either. How much lift will i have to put on my truck to stick the 35's on without rubbing problems. Some people tell me all i need is a set of skyjacker d25 springs and i am good to go, i want to make sure first that no rubbing will take place, i had that trouble on my old truck and it pretty much sucked, wound up with a mashed up fender as a result. Also can i use the stock 02 aluminum rims on the 12. 50 tires. I was also thinkin about 37's any info on lift sizes for them would also be appreciated.

I'm running 315/75/16 on stock alloys on my 2002. I have KORE race suspension which gives me about 2. 5 inches of additional height. The only rubbing is on the control arms at full lock. My tires are Toyo Open Country M/T's and they are pretty big.

I've heard that you can run 37's with this combination, it seems like things would get pretty tight in there.

good luck

Someone will tell you that you can run on factory rims and 35's with no rub. To which I say Bull****. .

Factory rims will work with that size tire.

Factory rims WILL NOT prevent the tire from rubbing the control arms.

Aftermarket rims will correct the backspacing and cure the control arm rub, but at the sacrifice of your fenders rubbing when you stuff the tire.

Spacers and/or coils will allow you to clear the fenders in either case, but will

#1 Kill your track bar if you jump over anything(take weight off of the front axle), #2 kill your alignment because the control arms are not lengthened. . This could lead to death wobble because the CAMBER CANNOT BE CORRECTED with spacers and factory control arms.

My suggestion: Weigh out how much money you want to invest. With the tires and spacers/coil you are looking at atleast one other mod to make it work.

I wound up with Spacers from EX. Pro-Comp, Trac bar and Control arms from DT-Pro Fab. I now have no rub with my wheels and tires and the stick out atleast 1. 5-2 inches past the fenders.

If you really want your money to work the first time, buy a Larger KIT and the 37's. This way you aren't piecing anything together.

Take it with a grain of salt.

with new rims and the 2" inch leveling kit you should be able to run 35s or 315-75s keep in mind that any tire that fits well under the truck and looks good without a big gap is going to rub some.

I run 35 Toyos with 2. 5"springs. They will rub on the control arms as Marek discribed. Stock length control arms work fine. Camber does not change with spacers, springs, or control arms. Caster will be slightly altered, but 2. 5" lift is within factory snow plow spring specs. Not an issue, and it can be adjusted on the lower control arm mount eccentric if needed.

Worried about your suspension drooping out too far? This scenario will occur regardless of control arm length. The easy solution is to install limit straps. Stop the axle before anything starts to bind, stretch, deflect, etc... Every off road shop has them.

Take it as fact. Their is nothing subjective above.

As for opinions on the matter, buy the best components you can. Quality suspension costs more, but the end result far outweighs the cost difference. Good springs will allow you to run the tires you want, and give a superb ride.

I didn't mean to come off as subjective.

I agree upon using straps for limiting, but this renders the lift useless as my concern was with the upper balljoint on the trac bar. It doesn't have the range of motion needed to let the front axle droop under normal circumstances. (turning up hill for instance) Mine was destroyed in 3 months with no offroading.

I just have a leveling kit on my truck. With the stock wheels and 315/75/16 Goodyear MTRs, the tires didn't rub anything at all. It was pretty close to the control arms, but still have 1/2" or so. I put some Weld Outbacks (8" wide) and BFG M/Ts same size as the MTRs. They rub just a little bit on the plastic wheel well liner and that's it.

I am running a 2" Skyjacker leveling kit and BFG M/Ts on Centerline 16. 5. I have also replaced my track bar with DTs. I still have rub on the outer rear portion of the wheel well. I only does it at full turn. I will be hopefully fixing this problem with the addition of the DT 1/2" longer control arms going on this weekend.
