Hey second geners. I have a question for you all, any forgive me if this subject was just covered but I haven't followed the 2nd gen forum much. What would have to be done and how much would it roughly cost to get 300- 400 hp from one of your engines? Is this a big effort or very simple task? Thanks guys.

Robert

If you have a 96-98 manuel with a 215 pump it is very easy. A plate will get you over 300. If you have a auto you need more $$'s.

A 215 with a #10 plate moved . 20 foward, according to piers, will yeild about 350hp. the plate is ~250$ depending on where you get it. then a 4" exh to keep cool ($300) and a BHAF (~35$).

I just learned from forrest that a #11 full foward is about 340/750. I have this setup and all I have is holes drilled in the airbox and a different muffler. It stays relativley cool. Keep in mind these are crankshaft #'s, not rear wheel #'s. All I've spent is about 300$, including the gauges.

Apparently by your sig and the replies already posted, you are talking about 12V 2nd geners. But, just for the sake of aimlessly rambling, I'll post under this topic.

The numbers you listed are EASILY obtainable with a 24V. A box, or injectors, either/or... should get you pretty dang close. I'm in the low-to-mid 400's rear wheel with injectors and a box (or two). I'm not sayin' this to throw it in the face of the 12V's. Just statin' the facts... just the facts. :)

TST and Piers #'s for plates are supposed to be RWHP

Thats weird, when I was talking to TST about it a while back, they guy (mark, I believe) told me those were crank #'s. if they are rwhp, even better!

thats because it is posted in the 12V forum.

I thought the point of this thread was how much hp for $$$? How much do you have in your AFE, FMS & EZ, DD supermentals, & 5" exhaust?

I just heard from TPCdrafting that his 12V with a #11 slid half foward dyno'd at 370/900 rwhp. thats just with a plate, 3kgsk, and the afc spring kit.

Thanks guys. I am toying with the idea of one day putting a second gen motor in, and was curious how much tweaking was nessisary to get that kind of power. The bigger problem is cost. You can always get power but for how much money. Thanks.

Pwerwagn,

My bad. If only I could read...

I didn't pay attention to which forum it was posted in. And since you asked, I've got more in my upgrades then I ever thought I would spend. Again, my apologies... I'll go sulk in the corner of the 24V forums now :{

No problem, no problem at all.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I got a thinkin over the last day or so and I can't figure it out, but what is a plate? Is that what I put my fried chicken on at dinner? Does a #11 mean it is a platter compared to a #10 intern meaning more fried chicken infront of me? :D What does sliding it forward mean. Does it mean I can't now reach my plate with my fork? Also what is a box? Is that where the fried chicken comes from (I thought that was called a bucket  ) Any help would be much appreciated.

Robert

P. S. pwerwagn, stick around. I need all the help I can get. :D

a plate is a fuel cam plate in the injector pump of the cummins. It adjust the fuel curve of the engine giving the engine more fuel. This is on the mechanical pumps. ON the 24v (electronically controlled pumps) they use boxes to change the amount of fuel going into the engine they fool the truck into thinking that it is at a high point in the fuel curve and supplies more fuel. That's simply put there are different ways that they achieve more fuel but that's the simpliest way to explain it. Here's a write up from tst http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3

For about 1000 dollars you can have those numbers easily in a 12v. And that's with all new parts if you get used parts it can be even less.

Ha Ha Ha! I love a good sense of humor. ;)

Anyways, I think the question was answered about as best as it could be. I can take some pictures for you if that would help you out. If you would like me to, just let me know. Its not fun to be in the dark (depending on whos there with you!)

I can't picture where this is so if it is a pain to take a picture of don't worry about it as I will see it one day when I do it. However, if it is easy to take a picture of, I never turn down the oppertunity to learn something.
