I am going to peform the following upgrades on my 2000 stock 6sp

-AFE Stage 1 Intake

-RV 275 Injectors

-SB Con Fe Cluch

-Edge w/Att

-4" MBRP Exh

-FASS

-Amsoil all around

My goal here is to have a dependable unit with GREAt performance. From my calculations I should be putting out approx 400hp and 800tq.

Please let me know if I this is too much for my stock turbo...

yes

I know people have made 450+ on a stocker, but I've got to imagine EGT's and drive pressure were nuts.

I wouldn't trust a stock turbo over about 325rwhp

You should be OK with that setup if you only play for short bursts with the edge turned up. Towing if you keep the edge on the lower settings egt's will be OK.

I still have a stock turbo and I can see 1400F+ pre turbo in less than 5 seconds at WOT.

i have a htbg 57/12 runs @45psi i can bury egts if tst is above 4 ,a 14cm wgate needed at this level and a 57 wheel is min a 62 would be ideal waste at 40-45 to save head gasket.

For sure:eek: you have around 100HP more than he is going to have with just a comp and 275's.

I do agree, if he wants to use all the power he will need a turbo but if he plays it smart the stocker should be OK.

I am wondering if a water/meth kit would help hold down the temps enough to keep me from going to a larger turbo.

Please understand that I do not mind spending the $$$ if needed. I drive ALOT and the last thing I want to do is not spend some money now and spend 2x the amt later because of poor planning. I will keep the truck a minimum of 250k, it has 70k currently.

Please advise...

I would just get the turbo upgrade, no sense in running your truck hotter than it needs to be. I bought Rip's S300/S400 twin kit awhile back, but can't afford to get the head o-ringed yet. I have probably too much mods to have the stock turbo still on, plus over 200,000 miles on it with original turbo. I can't even do a full quartermile run with the comp box set on level 3. I can manage 250 feet on level 5 before it gets hot (1300). If you are gonna keep it, do it right, it is cheaper than having to do it twice and fixing what you broke the first time round.

Be careful and watch the egt's and boost! I pushed my stock turbo and it bit me. I had the same set up as you see in my sig -minus the HTB2 obviously, and it was to much I think. I would stay after it to long and my turbo was golden brown from the heat. Check for play in the shaft on the turbo. My truck run's great now and the turbo made a huge increase in power. I went from 355/755 to 425/856. I thought that was well worth it! Good luck.

You will definitely need more turbo! I have an Aurora 2000 and I can still peg the EGT's with almost the same setup you have.

Ok, it looks like I need a Turbo. Which one???

I have been told to look at Ind Injection, but somewhat expensive.

I was told by a shop an huor from me to look at BD, affordable and a robust unit.

Again, I am not going to compete with this thing. I will from time to time race a rice burner or Mustang from light to light. Tow 10-20% of the time, and the rest will be Interstate at 70mph.

You will be pushing the limits. Waste gate for no more than 35 pis. A 14 cm exhaust housing might help & a wee bit of port matching in the manifold & turbine housing improve things as well.

i guess the real question is ,if money isnt a problem and u like to run it now & then is 400hp enough? i thought so and untill the tst i had a beautiful setup! but alas, the bomb bug has bitten me! dont underestimate and let it bite u in the ...

I have a marine head gasket and my head studded and a set of injectors that dynoed 365 hp and 899. 9 ftlb at the tires on my 02 6-spd and i was debating the same thing last year and i put snows water meth stage 2 kit on for about 500 dollars and even with

Don't worry, the bombing bug will bite.

Power is addictive. There's no cure, but you can feed that jones :-laf

Yeah... So true!

My opinion? Start where you want to end up. For me it is just hard to figure out that ending point, because it keeps changing on me.

I pushed my HX35 very hard at times, for that experimentation I payed with some 1600F plus EGT's. But it worked well for towing, almost. My "jones" got too greedy.

If you don't tow much then there is allot of turbo options, there are some very good singles available. If you do tow then look seriously at twins. A HX35/S400 twin set is a pretty good relative bargain, because it gets closer to a "one size fits all". Most single turbo's will be more of compromise at some part of the intended use, ussually the lower (towing) rpm's. The twins will require head studs as a minimum.

I've been running the setup in my sig, and also dyno'd the power in my sig - we regularly tow about 15,000 GCW in steep mountain grades. The Comp when used with the Smarty and my larger injectors pushes too much fuel, and EGT can get too high for comfort - but the Comp alone on 5x5 never exceeds 1200 degrees, and has WAY more power than I need in the steep grades - my boost maxes out near 35 PSI with the stock HX35, and has never been a problem. My goal has been about the power level I now have, without need for internal engine mods such as head O-ringing and studs - so far, I'm entirely satisfied with my results!
