So how about? Is any radial movement acceptable? If so, how much?

I would guess mine has about . 025 play in it. I figure a call to HTT is in order.

I would think that at . 025 the vanes on the turbin would be getting close to hitting the intake side of the turbocharger. You said radial movement that would be side to side, "right". There is some end play in mine, but its not very much. Never noticed much radial movement. I will next time the airfilter is changed.

I went and looked up the specs.

Radial clearance- . 012-. 018

End play before s/n 840638 . 004-. 006

after s/n 840638 . 001-. 003

Hope this helps

If you can feel it wiggle significantly, its probably on its way out. Mine was hitting the sides and it had to be replaced. Sorry I can't give you a number for exact amount of play.

Thanks for the specs. I found them on Holset's website too. I downloaded the whole manual and printed out all 72 pages. The turbo on the engine I just bought had some physical damage from the wreck as well as too much radial play. I complained so the salvage yard owner found a turbo at another yard and traded with me but it is sloppy in the bearings too. I received my rebuild kit form HTT last night. Looks simple. I'l tackle it this weekend.
