Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) How much smoke is too much?

I was wandering how much smoke you should produce. I don't get alot of smoke at idle if any, but when I take off and between gear shifts I get some heavy smoke for a couple of seconds then it goes away. I do have 40hp injectors in and I haven't done anything to my pump. Is this normal or am I overfueling with no load. I expect it more under load. Any thoughts.

Swap the 40 hp injectors for 370s, cut the cam plate, DV's, big rack cap. Thats just a little taste of what you can do. I changed my pump out with a 230 hp. If you have the time, take the pump to a Bosch service center and have it setup on a test stand. It's all in what you want to do. But remember, smoke is fun but you can't rate hp by smoke.

Oh yes there is... The more smoke you leave behind the more the man is gonna come down on you. If you don't have emmissions tests now, you will.



Anyone leaving a cloud of unburned diesel behind on public roads at over $3/gallon makes too many $/hour at the local fast food joint. At least they didn't raise minimum wage...



Keep it at the track or on the dyno.

with 3. 25 a gallon for fuel you should smoke none, unless you are rich. and if that is the case could you send me a few grand for a new transmission?

I figure I was running too much fuel when I looked in my sideview when hard acceleration and saw smoke rings coming out the exhaust. No im not kidding
