I have my cracked block in my freightliner, and I am finally dealilng with it. The cummins shop gave me this info.

1186 Block

194 Head gasket

250 Block gaskets

82 Main Bearings

98 Rod Bearings

1810 for parts

I would like to buy these parts, and just transfer all of them to a new block. The head is already off the motor, as well as the exhaust manifold.

The question is, how should I go about transferring these parts. They quoted me 22 hours to move the parts to the new engine, sound out of line?

Is this something I could do. I've torn down gas motors, but no diesel.

All input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

Not a diesel mechanic, but with the right tools, lots of patients, a little more time than a professional could do it, and this forum, you could do anything.....

What type of Freightliner is it? FL60? FLD? What size motor?

Are you using it to make your living or is it a toy?

If you have the time, patience, and know-how, I'd say go for it.

But if you use this truck to make your living and you need it back on the road ASAP, let them do it. 22 hours doesn't sound out of line, but that is what their book tells them to charge. I bet a good mechanic can do it in 16-18

Well I have settled this. The truck is an fl 70, 45,000 GVW, B5. 9, 127,000 miles. This is a truck I really only NEED in the 3 other seasons. I haven't driven it in weeks anyway, so I decided to poll the local votec, and they are interested in having their students tear into my baby. I have faith, so here goes... .

Well go for it.

1 thing though that I have learned is think about pulling the hood off before you take it to them. With the hood off it is a lot easier to work on, takes up lesss room and you can have it off and back on in no time. And you won't have to worry about them scratching up the hood.
