How much vacum should my pump be producing. I have to power breaks. It does have some vacum, but i could make more sucking on the hose. Is this normal or a sign of trouble? alonzo:confused:

The manual says nothing below 8. 5 inches. The high side sould be up to 25 inches.

Run the engine at different rpm ranges to check delivery. Don't forget to check all the hose for leaks.

It doesn't sound good if it is as low as you say. That pump is not cheap from what I have seen other eople say.

If you need a pump you can get a electric pump for a Ford for around $100 that is supposed to work well. It has been posted about that conversion several times so a search might help with more info.

Its no where those specs. I'm going to check tomorrow after class for leaks and then start calling around. It gives me an excuse to drive my gf's jeep. also is there any other possibilities to what could be causing this problem.

No if the power steering is working. Then the pump is going out. This is a gear driven setup. So if one works so will the other one.

If you do not find any leaks in the hoses. Then its time for sticker shock on the price of that pump. :(

Pull the adaptor out of the brake booster. Pull the smaller hose off the cruise control unit and put a vacume gauge there. Plug off the large hole that went into the booster with your finger and check the vacume to see what it reads. (obviously the engine has to be on to do this)My booster was so bad the vacume pump could not keep up. I originally thought it was the pump but it turned out to be the booster

Are you having trouble with the brakes? Is the brake warning light coming on?

sounds like i need a new pump
