How much power will the 48 actually take?? Has anyone made decent power with it stock?? What's the fastest yall have ever heard of one running in the quarter mile stock?? Thanks again...

I've heard approximately 100 additional hp. My truck went about 17. 000 with a banks six-gun and speedloader (no dyno numbers) and stock 48re. This past week I had a DTT rebuild and the 3rd gear clutches showed some blueing on the metals and a bit of carbon on the fibers nothing extreme or indicitive of immediate failure. However, I don't tow at all and I really don't run my truck all that hard empty (maybe 5-10) wot runs per week, with no boost launches at all, and the banks is almost always on the #4 setting.

By the way love the DTT! I see a turbo upgrade and a TST in my near future. :D

Launching a 7400 lb truck down the 1/4 mile track is alot of abuse for the transmission. We forget what these vehicles are designed for .

Expect transmission failures. :(

I have had 4 different boxes on mine. I have air intake and high flow muffler. Currently have the HOT Juice/Attitude.

I have done a couple of 10psi 2wd launches at the track with a 85hp pressure box. Those runs turned 15. 6 1/4.

I dyno'd with the Standard Juice and the Quad XZillaraider Race box. Both on 100hp setting dyno's about 370rwhp.

I don't play much on the 100hp settings and I haven't done anything on the 180hp setting yet. On 100hp setting on the HOT Juice I can do 7. 6s 0-60 and 15. 1s 1/4 mile according to the performance tests. This is with conservative 2wd low boost launches. In 2wd, even with 315s it takes too long to hookup. I can light 'em up pretty good.

So far I do not think I have hurt the 48re. Cant tell any real slipping, except for what it normally does with a load or heavy foot. I have over 24,000 miles now and don't abuse the power, but I don't baby it either. I almost never pass up a street challenge.

I am having the TC/Trans upgraded with billet shafts all the way through in about two weeks. When that is done, will be able to stack an EZ with the HOT Juice on 180hp setting and see what a 10psi 4wd launch will do. TWINS are definitely in my future.

The fastest I've read someone running with a stock 48 was 14. 5. . I've seen a 14. 8 out of a 4wd dually crew cab doing hard 4x4 launches. . He said it seemed fine, though it had to be hurtin. . I've done two full suncoast transmissions in the last two years on my duramax and 12 valve. . I hate to throw out the cash for another one. . They get expensive quick. . I'd like to just throw in a decent torque converter and a shift kit. .

Do the 47re and the 48re have the same size shafts?? I know the RH has a larger output than the RE. .

RMalone, I wonder if you can answer this question. The earlier 48RE's were supposed to have a thrust washer problem according to DTT. Since you had a DTT rebuild, did they mention anything about that when your transmission was apart? I wonder if this has been fixed or is still an issue in the newer 48RE's.

JVolpe, was the 15. 6 with just with the pressure box, or the pressure box and hot juice stacked?? Just wondering what to expect. . Thanks. .

Dieselnerd, I didn't hear anything about the thrust washers from my installer or DTT, and my invoice doesn't either so I can't help you there.

I do know that the 48re is evolving. Clutch pack differences, shift points, lockup, tow/haul mode are different depending on manufacture date.

Morse,

The 15. 6 1/4 mile was with Afe intake, Banks high flow muffler and DR Performance Stage II fuel/boost box only.

I expect to be in the mid 14s at least when I get the TC/Trans done with just the HOT Juice on high setting. Just have to see how much a pressure stack will do to the stock turbo before turbo(s) upgrade is necessary.

I just lost my ability to shift from 2nd to 3rd this week. I was running a TST CR for awhile. Then I swapped out turbos to a Killer B2 and added the Bully Dog Downloader. That was 6K miles ago. The truck has 36500 total. I would say 100HP over stock is not too bad for the 48RE. 200+ over equals one dead trans.

The real answer is the most a 48RE will handle is 610 ft/lb. Actually the 600's are torque managed to something less than 600 to save the trans. Not saying it will break today, but eventually it will break sooner than stock.
