I know what the owner's manual says, but in reality, how often are you all actually changing the front differential fluid, and how often do you change the rear diff fluid?

well i let the dealer do mine at 29k. got a coupon for front and rear diff fluids, transmission fluid and filter, and transfer case fluid for $229. i figured when i hit the 48k mark i might have it all done again, they said everything looked perfect.

twice a year. . once before winter, onces after. . it's cold to do it other wise :)

Same goes with transmission and transfer case.

The motor oil is a big less hassle and that's every 10K

did it at 5000 than put amsoil in it and just did it again at 35,000 - i won t do it again until 100,000 miles, i have amsoil in everything i own and I DON T SELL IT EITHER

Every 15k, as there is no filter on it I would not go any longer than reconmended no matter which brand of oil you choose. It is cheap insurance, if they reconmend 15k mile change intervals there is probably a reason.

Regarding the front diff only, I have 47,000 miles and I'm going to change it next week. (The rear I did at 15,000) I rarely use 4x4. Has anybody gone this long on their front diff without changing fluid?

While the front one doesn't get used as often, or as much load on it, the spiders are constantly turning.

I'm sure a person could go longer than 15000, but I'd rather not. I also do the T Case and transmission on that same interval.

25k to 30k both differentiel ,transfer case & manuel transmission with amsoil . 03,4x4,qc,lb,305 h. o. 6 sp. ,3:73,banks 6gun-speedloader-boost-piro, k-n fipk,4"magnaflow ss exhaust,33"toyo,2"super lift front-dual steer. stab,hellwig rear swaybar,modified suncoast ram air hood to fit with diesel engine(viper style), rancho 5000. Oo.

I ran the OE fluid to 50k. . 'it looked fine with no appreciable metal on the magnet.

Ran the next change of Mobile 1 75w90 25k (75k on truck) and it turned brown and smelled burnt...

Changed from the M1 to Royal Purple 85w140 and have 30k on it (105k on the truck) with nothing on the magnet and no appreciable change in color or smell.

I will most likely change every 50k here on out...

steved

changed at 15k with amsoil and will change the rear every 50k and possible 75k on the front. Amsoil suggests 100k normal duty and 50k severe service for the 75w90 severe gear. 15k to 30k is excessive and gets expensive on a good synthetic lube unless your towing extremely heavy all the time.

I do it in my current truck because I feel that I am very harsh on axles. Between the 20psi 4x4 launches, quick short drives in town, and moisture, and the fact I have 3 or 4 cases on the shelf, its just makes me feel good to know its clean and fresh.

1st gen, 2nd gen or 3rd gen... it doesn't really matter. The axles are the same basic design.

I'm guessing MMead was seeking 3rd GEN Owner's input regarding intervals.
