Bought a new 4. 5 Laramie had it 2 weeks, the wifey, the dogs and I load up the Toy Hauler with the bikes to go camping. After hooking up the trailer I notice that the trailer jack in the down position is higher than the tailgate. No big deal just spin it 180 when I drop the tailgate. So I close the tailgate and start loading the truck. While I`m not looking Wifey drops the tailgate on the jack handle and then tells our 110 lb. Boxweiler to jump in. As soon as I hear him jump in I run to the back and sure enough.

2" diameter dent right above the door handle. The ?? is should I stay with her? She is cute and good with our kids so I hate to lose her. Any suggestions?

Also anyone know of a cool sticker about that size? It is lower than my tailgate protector already so that wont help.

Just consider it your first dent in the new truck & you didn't do it. I havn't seen a pickup without a dented tail gate for very long. Exception being mine because it's been in my shop since day one.

I do have a little dent ontop of my 5vr gate, guess I need to put on the spectacles when unhooking.

You wouldn't have that problem with a 5er. :)

Unless you forget to lower the tailgate after unhitching and pull away... the trailer hitch will unlatch it for you! Don't ask why I know!

HA, at least yours lasted 2 weeks, my wife backed into our jeep the first week and put a dent in the tailgate. I seem to live with it though. She lost driving privlages for about 6 months. Even now she doesn't get to drive it much.

Fake bullet hole decal??

Worked for me, after a incident when the trailer tongue came down on the tailgate. It's been on there for about 3 yrs and gives people behind me something to talk about while they wait for the light to change.

I know Stuff happens, but it's not THAT bad..... :( We didn't have our truck for a few months and one morning, as she is backing out of the garage, she "forgot to close the door". It was a big deal at first... . but as long as SHE was ok..... its only sheet metal that can be replaced.

Sure, you wish things like that wouldn't happen, but they do.

Not 2 months after that, I backed it into my other Cummins in the driveway. It didn't scratch the 1 St generation truck but dented in the corner of the 02. Just get it fixed and laugh about it later, never know, maybe its YOU the next time that gets the privilege of the next mis-happen... :)

Too bad your trailer jack isn't about 2 inches from your dropped tail gate. Then you would be like me. You could easily load and unload stuff and Dogs without worring about it denting the tail gate.

You could even leave it down and back your trailer around your subdivision circle and Smash the Smash out of the top of the tail gate about 3 inches off center. OUCH!!!!!!

This was my first Dent. ARgggg, I plan to take the back of the gate off pounnd it just barley back to normal and the Rhino line over the bed rail and over the top of the tail gate.

For Me the first dent is the worst, from then on "It's a Truck" use it, just try to keep it nice.
