I'm wondering how steep I can mount a turbo without messing up the oiling. None of my books say anything about that but I have never seen a turbo mounted with much of an angle.

T. Baker,

Since the compressor side and exhaust side can be moved independently of each other, I don't think there would be much of an angle problem, as long as the drain can be pointed down. I assume this is what your asking:confused:

Actually what I am asking is if a turbo can be mounted with the shaft pionting vertically or at 45* angle for instance. I have never seen it done. They are always mounted with the shaft horizontal or close to it. I guess the oil drain would not work right and could blow oil past its seals. I don't know it wouldn't work though.

It would solve some problems for me to mount it with the shaft verticaly and the exaust pointing down and the intake pointing up and the turbine inlet facing directly into the back of the small turbo on a twin set up.

You must maintain no more then a 30 degree angle from vertical to ensure proper oil draining. The oil gravities out of the bearing section and more then 30 degrees interferes with this draining.

That's 30 degrees from vertical of the oil inlet and outlet. I guess after rereading your last post your not talking about that. :)

The turbo must be mounted horizontal to ensure proper lubrication.

T. Baker,

I was looking into the same thing as you. I am building a parrallel twin set up to see how it'll work and needed to mount both turbos on an angle so the will both fit. The turbo book I was looking at said shaft to be no more than a 30 degree angle. I can fit both turbos in with about a 22 degree angle.

I thought that might have been you. I talked to you thru email when you first put it on your truck. I had asked you if you would help me do a propane install on my PSD. Unfortunately I totalled my truck shortly after that.
