I am planning to put an Edge/Attitude on my '06 Mega Cab with a snow performance water/meth combo.

I plan to keep it turned down when towing but am hoping to have the ability to drive it hard (level 5) when I am not.

will the transmission hold level 5 with no load?

what is the maximum about of torque/hp the transmision can hold w/o a load before it is time to upgrade?

the stock converter will not hold the juice on level 5, not to mention the addition of the Snow kit. If you want to play, you have to pay. The stock converter will only hold an extra 40-50 hp and still last a while. I didn't beat on my truck excessivley, but after about 2 months of just the juice box, it was slipping. As far as the rest of the transmission. If you do a valve body to increase the holding pressure of the internal discs, it's been tested past 600hp. Going back, I would not put the edge on without the money to spend on the TC and VB at the same time. That's my $. 02 anyway.

Most say that the stock transmission is good for 100 HP over stock. But, when you work it that hard it's gonna eventually go boom.

I've had the TST/EZ on my stock 47re for a year and half now with no problems. But I don't turn it up past 4/4-1. I think if you don't get crazy with it, It will last you a long time.

I ran the Edge Hot Juice on 5/5 with the snow and it would blow right through the converter. It would go to 3100 rpm and stay there through every shift. So needless to say I have a ATS flex plate and Goerend Bros. VB/TC waiting to go in.

Every setup is different. For the most part RDyson said it. I would add that the stick isn't much different, its just called a clutch instead of a converter. Different applications add power at different times to try to take advantage of the stock holding capabilites.

I have seen a stock 48RE survive 40,000 with a Bulldog 130HP download, and a TS Ramifier stack. This guy drives his truck very Hard!!!. 4x4 lauches at the strip and all. Of course we finally talked him into putting in a Goerend convertor/VB and he is all smiles now!!

Reading this post makes me that much more confident in the decision I made to go with Goerends converter. I also did the billet input shaft and the flexplate. Can't wait to roll on the power.

With ALL of dodges transmissions... ... it is the luck of the draw. I had a 97 that 2nd gear went on with only 24k. The dealer rebuilt the transmission and when I sold the truck it had over 195k on it with the rebuild and fluid changes every 40k. In the end it is the person who builds the tranmissin from the factory that I have seen from experience that determines how long they last. Now being that I am building trannies now on the dodges.
