Chrysler knows they have a problem with their lift pumps. My truck has 53,000 miles on it and when I took it in last week for the check engine light coming on (0216 code) and drivability problems, they stated they were going to replace the VP44, but the lift pump passed the FLOW test and Chrysler would not pay to replace it.

This is the first pump replaced on the truck. The lift pump is also original. Oh well. When their new expensive pump goes out due to their lift pump, they will get to replace another VP44. Sounds like good sense to me!!!:D

spend the money and replace the pump yourself if you have the same kind of luck as me the vp44 will fail you at 100001 it is cheep insurance keep an eye eon the pressure... George

I also would say change the lift pump. They're not very expensive and usually they are the reason the VP went bad in the first place. Just for grins and giggles I'd also change the fuel filter while I was under the hood. It sucks spending your own money when everybody knows there is a problem there but its better then losing your second vp in front of a bunch of Furd guys. Or fixing that pump at your own expense. IMHO

I hear ya. I have an auxiliary Holley pump mounted by the tank. I disconnected it when I took the truck in. I did not want to be denied because of the non factory pump. I will hook it back up when I get the truck back. I was also thinking about deleting the factory lift pump altogether and just using the Holley pump. Any thoughts?

WHY IS IT YOU CANT RUN A HOLLEY "STYLE" PUMP ALL TOGETHER... SEEMS ALOT CHEAPER THAN SOME OF THE OTHER $550 SETUPS OUT THERE. THEY JUST WONT LAST AS LONG???THEY BURN UP WITH THE LONG USE???ID LOVE TO HEAR WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS

I'm going to the Holley Black as soon as Jeg's delivers it. I know of 2 trucks that have been running them for awhile now... . no problems on those highly modified trucks.

I have the Holley blue.

Crysler replaced my L/P back in May, now I am in need of a VP44. So back it goes even though I told them I thought the pump was acting up. Oh well, there expense, just sucks taking all the ggodies off to get something done. Wonder if they will give me the same PT Crusier to beat on again?... ... ... ... lol. :--)

I have a Holley blue in the stock location, truck came with it on there. After I installed the banjo's and I turn the tst on 6, I can't pull below 8psi. I can't tell you about the longevity of the pump, but I've had the truck for 20k and the pressure is constant in what it does.

NEWS FLASH

I just got off the phone with the dealer. The service adviser told me they decided to replace the lift pump on warranty per my request, as "the pump is not a restricted part. " I thanked him and await my truck. :D

TRUCKS BACK

Picked up the truck today. Runs fine. New VP44 and L/P. I put my EZ back on and re hooked up my Holley pump.

I heard some say on this board the Edge EZ, or any other aftermarket fueling box that increases the fuel pump timing and the fuel pump output, are hard on the VP 44 pump.

Has anyone heard about this? I tried to speak with someone at Diesel Injection Service to get their opinion, but no one answers the telephone.

Mine was in the shop this morning for the exact same thing. The dealer replaced the lift pump, but will not replace the injector pump until it leaves me and my family on the side of the road somewhere.

expletive, expletive, expletive!

You need to go back in one week and tell them you are having drivability problems. Erratic idle, smoke, low power, Etc. In my case, they wanted to replace the VP44 first and not the L/P. I had to twist their arm a bit to get the L/P replaced.

I will do that. I just need it to work this coming weekend and then the pressure is off for a while.

Be careful. You might want to bring your walking shoes with you. Ha Ha. And your AAA card for a tow.

About the Holley pumps, I don't believe that is the best way to go due to the fact that those pumps are capable of pushing say, 120gph at 14 psi. Thats fine but thats also "gasoline". Diesel fuel is a fuel oil and can put a ton of strain on that pump. I've heard many cases, searching through this forum about pusher pumps taking a dump after a short time. Plus, I look at it this way, you by a new stock lift pump, $150, plus a pusher pump, $145, and the big line/ fitting kit, $100, and you could have gotton a FASS setup for a few penny's more. I looked into this extensivly and the success stories with FASS setups is incredible. JMHO.

I've been running an Edge EZ and 275 injectors on my truck for close to 60K miles. I tow a 33 ft. fifth wheel. The only problem I have ever encountered while towing are idiot drivers and slave cylinders deciding to crap out at the most inopportune time. My fuel pump is fine. (Now watch it crap out on the way home:eek: )

I've changed lift pumps out three times. The third time was not necessary as I had a bad fuel guage sender. I kept the old pump as a spare.

Yes it does accelerate wear and tear on the pump, but to what degree is the question. Lot of people running boxes with no problem, others go out if the wind blows the wrong direction, go figure.

when you put on say a Holley or something, are you guys putting regulators on them as well, or simply replacing the lift pumps with the Holley?
