How to adapt a HX40 compressor housing to a HX35?

Odviously it can be done, but what needs to be done to make it happen?



I have a HX40 compressor housing & snap ring lying around, and was told that I just needed a compressor wheel?



What do I need and what needs to be done, besides rebalancing when its finished of course?

I think that may have just killed that idea.

Sorry, its not the compressor housing, it's the center section that needs to be worked. You need to do this for the 40 compressor wheel to fit.



The 35 compressor wheel won't work with the 40 housing, it's too small.

the machine work on the backing plate for the larger wheel is REAL easy and non-precise. just have to make the relief (i guess that's what you'd call it) for the wheel a little bit bigger. that's only if you get a 60mm wheel though. chances are the housing you have is for a 58mm wheel i'm guessing. no machine work would be necessary to put that wheel on. does the housing still have the tag on it? if so, call htt and order yourself a wheel!

Here's what you'll need to do. (for a 60mm pinwheel - 58 should fit without any machining)



You need to remove the front & center section from the truck. Remove the compressor housing (big snap ring) and pin wheel. Tape the oil holes so you don't get oil all over. Chuck center section by the large diameter & make sure it's running true. You need to machine the counterbore a bit larger diameter (say . 125" dia larger) and to the same approx depth (it's not very deep say . 020" deep). Put on the new pinwheel and housing & enjoy... If your buying a new pinwheel, you want the 60mm 6 blade.

Oh yeah I have WAY to much fuel for a hybrid, but I'm gonna pull some in stock charger class the rest of this year and buy a bigger charger next year. I just got a 14WG'd housing on loan, and thought hey I can increase the compressor side while I'm at it.



Still unsure if I'm going to do it or not. vssman thanks for the info.
