No fuel tank locks for me.

During the fuel "shortage" in 1973 in the Los Angeles area if you had a locked fuel tank, No problem ! They would put a container under your tank out of sight and punch a hole in the bottom of the tank. come back later and take their fuel and leave yours all over the ground. .

Somewhere on the TDR website there was a thread about a protection device for the door handle. I believe it's called Jimmijammer(sp?) It consists of a plate that is held in place by existing bolts and prevents someone from sticking a screwdriver in and unlocking the door. Seems I googled it and found dealers for it. CRS

FWIW. . JD

OK, just looked it up. Go to the search forum, type in Jimmijammer and it will take you to the page and a link.

I just have a junk tire/wheel as a spare. Don't think anyone would want it enough to steal it. Actually a Ford steelie :-laf

Not to be a smart ***, but have you actually had this spare on your truck?? All the ford steelies I have seen wouldn't clear the hub... they were sorta kinked in for some reason... I had a set of 80s/90s steel wheels and the centers were too small to fit the my dad's 2500.

Just a thought...

Security Lock

watch out for those locks that use a security key inside the crank tube. they use ones similar to the wheel locks. on my work f150 we lost it and i had to walk back miles rolling the spare. he-he i made the boss walk too. he wanted to go look at the back 40 in the rain. lol

i took it to the dealer and they ended up cutting it off since they could not get the masters to lower the tire, lotsa mud. they replaced it with a non-security one gratis.

a cable and lock would be easiest, providing the lock keyway has a cap to prevent mud from gumming the works.

for those of us with duals we always have spares. ---lol.

hmmm---move it to the bed, then i could build a toolbox like the honda--hmmm or another fuel cell.

hmmmm

thanks for the ideas.

I used to have a bike cable lock on my spare. A couple of winters with the chemicals on the roads, and I found I could no longer put the key into the lock! I had to cut it off... which made trying to replace my flat while it was raining kind of a pain, since the bolt cutters were at home...

I suggest a combo lock, with a waterproof bag of some kind around it if you drive your truck where it gets dirty, wet, or dusty. or where it snows...

Presently, I have a 11 1/2' camper hanging over the bumper. They may get the spare, but it will be slower and take more effort.
