I just put in a 4k gsk and I smoke like a freight train. At anything over 2700 there is alot of smoke. I had to put in my cam plate to cut it back. But what am I missing? Why cant I get it burning? Is it that I have stock timeing still?
You probably need a much bigger air filter and bigger exaust with no cat. After that you will be limited by your torbo. Bumping the timing up a little would help at higher RPM as well. I find that after 2700 my truck dosen't do so well either. It pulls best below that and I already have alot of the mods. Check my sig.
Don't know much personally but I have read here that a K&N in a stock box is not good enough. There is infor on air cleaner set ups in the latest TDR magazine.
Sorry I didn't know what your filter was. It looks good! I do notice you have an E. G. R. pipe. Do you have that blocked off yet? I have been toying with the idea of getting a 16cm exhaust housing. They are on ebay pretty cheap. I already upgraded to the HX40 compressor side from that guy on Ebay. The only thing is I like all the bottom end torque and that I can pass and accelerate without shifting down.
Egr is still active. This just has me puzzeled becouse my 24v with its kn replacement fiter, stock pipe, and hy35 is much more smoke free than my 12v. And it is much heavier bombed. I think timing must be a big smoke thing. My 24v is alot loader than my 12v.
In my case, more air made the smoke go away. The config was the HX35-12 with the 280/685 plate slid to 340. Had plenty of smoke & black soot around the tail pipe. Converted to the HX40 ... smoke went virtually away as did the soot ring.
I noticed in your sig that you have a McLeod clutch. I have been thinking about switching to a dual clutch. My South Ben is not holding anymore after the pump mods I recently made. Any info would be great. How much Hp it will hold ?
I notice you have an auto truck. What does everyone think about it needing injectors and a turbo change. I'm thinking too small injectors will not pass fuel and much fuel comes in late in the cycle which will cause smoke. I think it is more than just an air problem, although lower exhaust pressure from a bigger housing or turbo would not hurt. Any one else thinking this way??
