Competition intercooler pipe fab question

So how do you build boost with a standard trans for a quick off the line? It sure would be hard on the clutch to use it to hold the engine back. Reving the engie first would also be supper hard on the clutch. So how is is done?

In turbo cars they use a two step. It allows you to have two cutoffs for rpm. One for the line and for shifting. I don't think it would be that hard to retrofit it to a diesel, the biggest problem would be the shift points available - if they go as low as a diesel needs.

It would be very hard to retrofit it to a diesel as the diesel doesn't have and ignition system. 2 steps wire into the ignition control system.

Drag or sleddin?

As far as drag, I used the method of floor it and drop the clutch at 3k. This is very good for your local transmission shop because you will be a repete customer.

Sled, rev it up and ease out fo the clutch. This is also very good for your favorite clutch builder.

I 'blip' the throttle... tap the accelerator in rapid blips.

It gets the turbo spinning up quite a bit but not anywhere near into building boost like powerbraking with an automatic will.

Reduces some of the turbo lag and results in tire-spinning launches.

Steve St. Laurent uses line-lock. I'd like to have it myself, but with 4-wheel ABS I've heard it will be a PITA, and is not on the list of priorities.

Howdy Jimmy,

No special method, most tracks I've been on have been nice and flat at the line, and most of the time I can sit there, with the brakes released, and not roll. Then mash the throttle to about 3kish, and slide the clutch out. I have no idea how to build boost without line lock, and I can't do the heal-toe thing.

So bacicly it's luck for me-- if I roll, I red light, if I don't roll it seems to do alright. Line-lock would be sweet-- and may just have moved up on the prioiry list, :)

so where can you get these line locks? also does anyone know what the cost is? what all is involved with installation. thanks for the repy rob!

Here ya go - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68886 . I don't think it'll work for what you guys are looking for though. Using one to build boost would require you to have them on the drive axle/axles and would be EXTREMELY hard on your clutch. I use mine for burnouts and staging so I don't roll and it's just on the front brakes. If you have 4w abs and want to use it like I do then you'd need two for each front brake. If you wanted to use it to build boost you'd need one on the rear axle if 2wd and 3 (one on the rear and two on the fronts) if 4wd and using it. All the information is in the above post on my install and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

how about something to inject air/fuel mix into the exhaust manifold before the turbo??? [like propane/air or fuel/nos?] if you can get it to ignite like a turbine fuel injector it should make the turbo spin up good... [like in the turbine engines made from turbos... ]
