What's a 98 12V 5.9L worth?

4BT , NV4500, np208 tunnnel clearance

Hi folks,

I've had my 93 cummins powered extended cab 1 ton dually for a little over a month now and I really like it. So much that I am considering swapping a cummins into my 79 Ford F250 crew cab short bed. The Dodge would be reserved more for pulling my race trailer, and the ford could haul the family around and pull the camper trailer.

There is a motor and transmission in the clasifieds with 108k miles on it from a wreck. But it is a long ways away and is out of the vehicle. How could I buy a motor like that with out too much risk of getting burned?

long distance buying

I'm trying to do the same thing right now and I'm a little apprehensive about buying from out of state.

You might ask yourself questions like:

Is a TDR member close buy that could check it out for me ?

Is it worth a day or 2 to drive and pick it up ?

Is it from a business or individual ?

If it is on EBay then you might check out their feedback and see how many transactions they have completed.

Shipping seems to be a big factor for me but I'm still looking.

BTW - I think the 79 would need to have the cross member cut out a little for the Cummins to fit.

Check out FORDCUMMINS for some good conversion information.

I got mine fro enterprise engine, runs great but I got burned on the shipping, $950 ouch! 'guess they don't ship enough to get a discount, a simular engine from adelmens (in Ohio also) shipping was $325, just something to look out for. Bob

I bought mine out of the classifieds here. It was from Paul Shaarf(sp?) in Wisconsin. Freight from Wisconsin to N Texas was $200. Also check with Forward Air for shipping. Their prices are significantly less than others. Don't let the name fool you.
