Getting ready to change the trans oil in my 2008 3500 trans has only been serviced by the dealer. I bought the mopar ATF 4 and am ready to go but am scared to tackle this. Help me make this oil change not a stressful one thanks.

Easy to do. Make sure you can get the fill plug out FIRST. They are 14 MM Hex (IIRC) and you need to buy this Hex socket in order to remove the fill and drains.

You need to get the fill plug FIRST - BEFORE you drain your trans and get stuck with no ride.....

Use Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid like the NV5600 uses. Standard Trans reports much better results with it than with ATF. Try to "overfill" by one or two quarts; on the NV5600, the top PTO cover bolt will allow this. Hopefully that will work on the G56; otherwise you will have to remove the shifter and pour it in there, or put an elbow on the fill port to raise its level.

My book shows the fill plug on the right side of the transmission just behind the PTO cover. Looks just like the drain plug, both plugs tighten to 42 ft-lbs. You can also park the truck on a slope (sideways) or raise one side of the truck to get the extra fluid in it. You want it above the bottom of the fill hole in order to properly lubricate all the bearings.

One of these pumps makes it easy to get the new oil in as there is not enough room to get a bottle in there. Run the hose over the frame rail and the exhaust and into the fill hole.

I actually bought that same one a whole back when I bought the truck anticipating this oil change thanks for advice tho greatly appreciated.

some drive the truck in a barditch to get the extra quart in. our g56's have trans-cools and temp sensors on them. for the last year we have been playing with other lubes we found one without blending that is a better lube than the pennzoil we are using, it is called gorilla juice.

In order to eliminate the gearlash the G-56 experiences without the dmf,I tried GJ. I guess my transmission is the exception, but it was extremely hard to shift even on mild 45* mornings. Noise suppression was as advertised. I returned to Synchromesh.
