Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How to check codes?

I have 98 Ram 2500 24V Diesel, and only have owned it a week when the check engine light has come on. Is there a way to check the codes? On my 98 Ram you turned it on off on off on and the check engine light flashed the numbers. Tried that with my truck and nothing and the odo didnt change. So wondering if there is a different way. Thanks...

Scan tool....

You will have to hook up a scan tool. Starting with the 2000 models, you can do the ignition trick and the codes will show up on the odo, but not for us pre-2000 guys.

In my 95 1500 5. 2 I was able to do the on off and get some codes. Oh well, I will find out on Mon. Im thinking its nothing special, the truck ran fine on the way home. Nothing seems out of the ordinary. Thanks for the help...

Well went to the shop and found out my trq converter is shot. Only 60,500 miles and its done. They said thats really weird, and then they told me the price. I only have to pay half but still going to be over $500. PLUS Mopar doesnt offer a upgrade for the trq converter. This puts a little damper on upgrades for a while...

Stock stock stock... just bought it 2 weeks ago. Havent had time to do anything. There doesnt look like anything except the exhaust brake has been added to the truck.

I have seen this error.

I have seen that code on my wife's truck. It has to do with the torque converter and a silonoid that works with the converter. Dealer was inadequate at repairing the problem, so we are just driving on. The truck is out of warranty, so nothing to loose! FYI... the wife's is a 2000 1500 quadcab.

Amendment to privious rashwor post: I think when the transmission goes belly up, we will just put her a 5. 9 ISB with a manual 6 speed in the truck and be done with DC POC autos. Oo.

Well got the truck back and they think they found the problem. After they called the Dodge Tech line they realized they put the wrong transmission pump in. So after switching it, and giving her a test, the TC is finally locking up. Now where to start BOMB'ing first?!?!?
