How would one go about cracking the plastic ends of the Intercooler?

** Edit** : Found a dealer that is willing to swap out the Intercoolers without waiting for them to be blown.

Thanks for all the replys. Even the ethical ones, even though I did not ask for a ethics/morality lesson. All suggestions are appriciated!

I waited & waited to get mine to go. I was goofing around turned my Edge/ Juice W/ Attitude to 5x5, jumped on the highway and floored it down the acceleration lane. Half way through the merge lane onto the highway and at approximately 42 Psi boost wise she blew the ends off. I had ran the truck hard like this multiple times in some 40K+ miles but it was at about 43K when they finally blew. I think it takes either a serious bomb, or just a lot of miles using a programmer frequently.

As an FYI fraud is never a safe or smart subject to discuss, I would be surprised if anyone gives you any advise. I was an insurance adjuster for many years and I can tell you whether it an auto repair shop or body shop, fraud is a criminal offense. Again just looking out.

Don't lower your personal standards, that's underhanded and deceitful!

Apparently the plastic ends have worked as designed and guaranteed. If you want to BOMB the truck, realize that a new air-air is part of that budget!

How to blow up........

Cap the inlet and outlet use your air compressor, why chance breakin truck parts when a little compressed air will do.

Not sayin its right... ... ..... just another thought. And we wonder why our legit injector claims are denied... ... ... ... ...

No actually they have not worked as designed or they (dodge) wouldn't have switched back to alum! And yes the plastic ones do pop WITHOUT power upgrades. I re-read his and your post and I don't see where you answered his question and I don't see where he asked for a ethics lesson.

Now as for how to pop it. Others have used a plumbers plug and an air compressor. I switched mine (before it went) with a friends '04 before it was traded in. I'll never use my warranty so I give you permission to use my warranty slot to keep some people happy. :-laf

They worked in his application, what does that have to do with your truck or him being fraudulent?

I think the ticket is to have a high boost number and a hot charge (aka out of map). I don't know that a compressor will get the job done. Have you considered a calssified ad? Lots of guys have upgraded their intercoolers to aftermarket ones.

Any sensible ideas?

Another veiw of american ethics :(

and how did your post answer his question? Instead of trying to play "internet nanny" why don't you answer the post?

(take diesel nut's post as an example!) You could even use JDHenning's post, he answered the question THEN interjected morality! Glad I could help! :-laf

While I agree this isn't the ideal way to deal with the issue, I feel that since the Dodge bean counters felt that lowering the quality of the product while keeping the price the same wouldn't keep them from sleeping at night I don't feel too bad about some people making them pay for it. Don't tell me the plastic ones worked as planned or they wouldn't have switched back!

To start with there is NO SAFE way to blow up a pressure vessell. If his intercooler lets go on its own during his warranty period (100k is more than fair) he is covered... ... ... . no big deal. Intentionally destroying parts and then crying warranty is stealing plain and simple. I personaly do not condone breaking any of the 10 commanments. Sorry if this goes against what you beleive to be fair and right, just because an engineer tryed to save a little money for his employer.

Have a nice day

I do have access to a friends SMARTY - could I load the version for After Market Turbo's (the one with boost fooling) and make it happen at will?

Both my trucks have the Intercooler with the plastic ends. Due to some planned upgrades, I would like to get the Intercoolers replaced with the ones that have the metal ends for peace of mind in the future. I have had the trucks for two years and tried to get the ends to pop, even towed heavy and started out on a hill, but they hold.

I have asked my dealer (have good relationship with) to just replace them, but he said that he can't until they crack (said with a smile and a wink).

Any sensible ideas?

I am so disgusted with the request and those of you that think it's justified i could not come up with an answer.

I always wondered how Billy Grahm finally got his big break... TDR maybe?? Who knows.

Things happening like this is why we honest people have a hard time getting things covered that are REAL problems. You have some hairy ones to even ask a question like this.

Bottom line is the plastic intercooler was a DISASTERPIECE from DCX from the get go. They realized the problem and went back to the metal intercoolers but the people with the plastic units get the shaft.

Who would want to be pulling a trailer on a hot day in California pulling a grade and have to worry about that POS blowing an end off.

DCX NEEDS TO RECALL ALL OF THE PLASTIC INTERCOOLER TRUCKS INSTEAD OF BEING CHEAP AND LAYING DOG AND WAITING FOR WARRANTY TO EXPIRE!!!!

Reminds me of the 53 block fiasco.....

YEAH! Especially about the California thing! Glad I have a metal IC!

Yup, I agree, the plastic intercooler is CRAPtastic. It's too bad that DC puts on a big blindfold to expensive defective parts that haven't caught the governments attention.

And to the conservative ethics pushers that feel the need to express their personal views in a mechnical technical forum? To you I say "Thanks but no thanks". I know who you are and if I have ethical questions I'll ask.

As an honest, hardworking American, I resent that remark. How can you come on a forum and use such a broad-stroked brush to paint a portrait of American's ethics? What makes you so freakin' ethical?
