Found a dealer that is willing to swap out the Intercoolers without waiting for them to be blown.

Thanks for all the replys. Even the ethical ones, even though I did not ask for a ethics/morality lesson. All suggestions are appriciated!

I don't even know why your asking, the plastic intercooler could probably be the greatest thing since the OEM carter lift pump. :-laf :-laf :-laf

P. S. (Bob4x4, cojhl2..... ) I cut the tag off a mattress I didn't own! :--)

Thats interesting, I wonder how they then got paid?

I don't think there is a TSB issued or anything like that.

Matt, Maybe the IC they put in for him wasn't new. Or they did it as part of other work, or to get his business in the future. If a mechanic at the dealership I go to had an IC off a wreck I think they would try and help somebody out that had a legitimate concern. I know this is sacreligious around here, but I like my dealer. So far.

As an honest, hardworking American, I resent that remark. How can you come on a forum and use such a broad-stroked brush to paint a portrait of American's ethics? What makes you so freakin' ethical?

It wasn't a broad stroked brush, if you don't fit the bill, it didn't tar you.

and how did your post answer his question? Instead of trying to play "internet nanny" why don't you answer the post?

(take diesel nut's post as an example!) You could even use JDHenning's post, he answered the question THEN interjected morality! Glad I could help! :-laf

I can't help it that some people have no morals or ethics, but I get a little disturbed when somebody wants to get in my pocket.

So the guy who started this thread got his problem fixed... So why are you guys still arguing about this? How about we just drop it and move on? I like TDR for the friendlyness of the members and the positive environment with TONS of useful information, lets try and keep it that way. :)

Matt400,

The job is not done yet, dealer had to order new two intercoolers for delivery on Monday - job gets done Tuesday.

As far as how there getting paid - I am sure that they will be creative in that department.

I am just gald that I did not have to resort to popping them myself to get them replaced, as I was a bit worried about doing it (ethically) even though my begining post did not relay that concern. I just wanted the damn UNREALIABLE things off my trucks!

Don't lower your personal standards, that's underhanded and deceitful!

Apparently the plastic ends have worked as designed and guaranteed. If you want to BOMB the truck, realize that a new air-air is part of that budget!

JHardwick,

I appreciate your point of view and do agree with you to some extent, but DCX has been underhanded in the fact that they let a failure prone part remain on 2004. 5-2005. 5 trucks, in service trucks, and only replace them "if" they fail. It is not a matter of "if" they fail - it is a matter of when (from my research), I am sorry but that crap don't fly with me.

I was extremely concerned about contemplating doing what I originally proposed (even though it was not evident in my original post), however, I seemed to have found a solution that I can live with, and one which should put me back in your good graces.

Sincerely,

Your TDR Brother

Nauidvr1, Just saw where you are from. Keene should pretty close to you. I hope they are not the people you have had trouble with. They seem to be customer friendly and use common sense to me so far. Did you find your 1/8NPT plug? I brought one home in case you were still looking.

robmints,

I did find a 1/8 NPT plug at a friends transmission shop in Bel Air today - he even let me pull my truck in to his bays and do the work right there - great guy. Thanks for thinking of me.

No, I did not have ANY trouble from Keene - But will refrain from mentioning (on the open internet) who is actually doing the job for me.

PM me for details if you like and we can trade phone numbers.

Sorry I climbed onto the old soapbox. I didn't realize I was throwin diesel on the fire :-{} It is very ture how poorly DC has handled engineering and cost cutting issues. I guess we'll solve them the TDR way, work together to make it better. Nothin personal just an observation. Toodle-oo.

JDHenning,

Not a problem at all, I knew when I started the thread that I should have my flame suit on. When I initially typed the post I did not have time to express my concerns about the ehtics of the question, and I was having a hard time with a few local dealers not wanting to change the IC's out before they blew.

I am going to be doing some major towing for the next several months and did not want the IC's to pop when out on the road away from home. After some more digging (thru a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend), I was able to make the right connection, at the right dealer, who understands the issue with the plastic IC's and had no problem swapping them out.

And Yes, in the future (16,000 miles or 15 months, right after the 3-36 warranty) I do plan on "becoming my own warranty station" and have a few upgrades planned. This IC swap will assist me in going down that road.

One thing for sure is there seems to be allot of interest in the title based on the number of views. My 05 has the plastic one and I don't really like the feeling of a possible break down while towing a narrow windy grade. I doubt I would break it intensionally but may kick myself one day I never did.

I fully understand that! However I get "disturbed" when people fail to answer a question but feel free to interject personal opinion. If I was to ask what would be the best way to bust out my windshield I don't want to hear how "stupid" or "immoral" it may be. I want to hear the best way to do it. Now you could tell me to try a brick or a hammer, then you could tell me how it wouldn't be a good idea, but don't preach morals from the keyboard, it didn't help fix his problem which is what these forums are best at!

So you are saying if someone asks me how to commit a fraudulent act I am a better person if I become an accessory as compared to someone who attempts to thwart the act?? Don't we always have the right to express a personal opinion.

On the other hand you have the right to be disturbed with me!!!

DC came up with the way by putting sub-par performing parts on a truck built to tow (RAM tough)... you just have to find a way to expedite the inevitable process. It's too bad cummins builds these at such a level they do then DC surrounds it with lower cost peripherals. I called for warranty re-imbursement on my 05 but of course "it wasn't a recall". Everybody cheats sometime... and it they deny it they're not cheats, but liars.
