How to determine 12V by Vin # in 1998 models

What is the identifying character in the VIN which signifies that the engine is a 12V? Tried to perform search to no avail. Thanks

Go by the build date on the door jamb (or where ever it is on a '98) Before 1/1/98 it is a 12 valve.
