Is there a way to diagnose a bad torq convertor?

i am not noticing as much power as i had before, i mean i have to step on it more and more for it to get up to speed. .

when i'm towing something i've noticed that rpms will go up without speed changing much then when it gets to about 2700rpm i stop giving it gas and the speed then slowly catches up.

Any way of inspecting/checking it?

if your rpms are increasing without increase in speed , transmission is slipping.

Oh Yeah!!

My trans slips like an old man on a banana peel. It is quirky about when it slips too. Sometimes it will catch and I will squeal the rear tires and it takes off like a rocket. Other times it will rev up and make a lot of noise but not go anywhere. I am saving my pennies and counting the days when I can afford a new trans.

It could be the convertor, if it does it on accelleration. The stocker has poor fluid coupling anyhow. One possibility could be the sprag clutch on the stator. If it is able to freewheel, it isn't able to multiply the torque.
