I have a 99 3500 bought in 2005 with 82th miles now has 112th. I am looking to upgrade performance for towing( 34' 5 horse Trailer) The dealer I purchased it from said it had a power chip in it. It does have a performance ext. on it and a K&N air filter . How can I find out if it does have a chip and if it does which one is

Donnyd, The 24 valve engine doesn't use a "Chip" as a GM or Ford would. To Electronically up the power, you would have to add either an external "Fueling Box" or a Reprogramer for the ECU.

Examples of Fueling Boxes are, Van Aaken, Edge EZ, Edge Comp (2 Versions), Edge Juice w/ Attitude, and the BlueChip FMS. These boxes usually are hooked up at the engine somewhere near the VP44 Injection Pump.

Examples of Reprogramers are Smarty, and Bullydog. These change the programming of the ECU, and can't be seen. If you have this stuff the seller should have given you the downloader, as these a "VIN Locked" and can't be used another truck with out unloading the 1st truck.

Hope this helps, Moose :D

If you care to say where you live, there would probably be a TDR member who could work out a visit with you to help you look the truck over. Most people mount modules which will be visible in a few common spots, but sometimes they can be hidden pretty well.
