My father in law just bought a 91 cummins and i was wondering if you can adjust the air fuel control like on a P-pump? Can u slide the rack? Also do these early cummins have a silencer ring on the turbo? I looked in the archives and could not find anything on these topics, thanks.

WOW... that surprises me. There is so much discussed in here on that subject.

Take a look in the FAQ section... the top thread discusses how to get power by adjusting the VE pump.

Forget anything you know about the P pump when working on a VE... totally different animal.

Enjoy!!

I looked up the FAQ section and read how the pump works and the governor but it does not say how to go about it. The pics were very hard to see. Thanks

No silencer ring,

Ideas to research

366 governer spring - cheap, relatively easy, best bank for th buck IMHO. I know it is discussed in the VE FAQ.

Read the performance FAQ - twice, then use that for ideas to research. Thats what I did.

Questions, #1 How much do you want to spend

#2 How many HP do you really want to have.

Those two answers tell you if you want to tweak the pump a little or get new sticks, turbo, exhaust or more as well. kinda need to know where you are going to get there well without wasting $$. My only changes at this point would to be to go with 190 injectors or a DD stick. I went with POD's and am really happy with the power, but the daily driving around town is a little too smokey.

~250 HP you are looking at #1 GUAGES, then better turbo, injectors, and probably exhaust allow ~2k for the parts.

my experience, very limited, I am far from the experts that you can find here with more specific questions.

I learned most of what I know of the CTD from this site, the FSM, and the truck itself.

Enjoy!!

Ken
