boost, how hi is to high

Hello, I just traded my Duramax for the Cummins because the LLY motor was not able to make big HP. I want 500+ RWHP for a daily driver. I have heard about doing a twin setup, but alot of people are saying that is not the way to go. They think I should go with a big single. I do not want a laggy truck, it has 18" wheels w\ 33. 4" tires. The truck is an auto w\ our race transmission in it and a triple disc converter, so transmission upgrades are not an issue. I just don't want to be driving and have to worry about the motor . etc letting go. I know the CTD is the best diesel around, but experience is the best advice you can get. The truck will be driven about 50K per year, so durability is key!! PS, I love the new truck!!

Since you have the transmission licked you need 5 key things to make over 500 rwhp on #2 diesel: 1) TST CR box 2) Your favorite pressure box... EZ, VA, TS, Quad, etc... . I use the Edge EZ (you might be able to make 500+ without this one, but you will be happier with it). 3) Pusher pump setup (kits are available, or make your own) 4) twins and 5) exhast system.

500+ is doable with a single, but it will have to be big, and that is going to make a CR motor very laggy. Twins are the only answer to having 500+ and actually being able to use it while towing, racing, etc. without EGT issues. I made 556 rwhp with what I listed about plus a double disc clutch, and others have done about the same. Hope this helps.

If you want to run drugs you can do it with a driveable single. Otherwise John is on the right track. You could also substitute a set of injector for the pressure box, your choice.

500HP daily driver with the mods listed below. When towing, I turn the power down a bit because of EGT's. So yes, to tow with 500HP you need twins, but 500HP on a single is very doable for a daily driver. Lag is not an issue for me either - 0-60 times are under 6 seconds, without power-braking.

So, with a good intake ($200-$300), 4" exhaust ($300-$400), TST ($850, includes gauges), EZ ($300-$450), pusher pump ($300-$500), and turbo ($1200-$1700), you'll be at 500HP with about $3150-$4200 invested. A twin setup would let you use more of the TST box, but would tack on another $3000-$3500 (including head studs).

uhh... . how much for the trans?

Which single would you suggest? Who makes a good pusher pump??? I can't wait to get this truck moving. I currently have the Edge Juice Beta, TST Box, Quadzilla, the best of them will be the Edge when it is perfected, but in my opinion the TST is presently the best box out there. Could the Quad be substitued for the Edge EZ?

Nick - http://www.atsdiesel.com has a price sheet :)

Koop - singles from Diesel Dynamics, Enterprise, the B1 lineup (available from Piers, Wildcat, et. al. ), and HT have all been used with this kind of setup, mostly with good results. Some have reported failures, mainly from over-boosting (especially on turbos without wastegates... bad idea with the TST). Stick to the rated specs. as far as boost, and you'll be OK.

As for pushers, yes, DD makes a nice kit that replaces your stock lift pump. It's not a lot of money, and it can keep up with the demands of the TST (although DD is hesitant to suggest that any of their products will work with the TST). The FASS/Preperator/Airdog (all the same to me - I really don't care which family member is sueing which, or who stole who's idea) work very well, but are a couple hundred more $$. IMO, it's worth it - but that's a personal decision.

And yes, just about any pressure-only box can be used with the TST. Most people run the EZ, becuase it's been out the longest, but several people run the Quad+TST, and some even run the Dr. P+TST combo.

As far as the Juice being the best of them... well... I hear the 2010 model Rams will blow away the rest of the truck market, too... I'm just not willing to wait that long for one :)

Brandon - 16psi at idle (that's with the factory fuel filter in place, as well), and I can't get it much lower than 14psi during a WOT run. Pressure reading is taken after the factory filter, just before the injection pump.

100 hp injectors, HX40 (or whatever good single you prefer) Edge EZ and supporting hardware (trans, intake, exhaust, gauges, fuel supply) will easily net over 500 rwhp.

figure if you want 500 rwhp your gonna need about $$$ 8500. 00 +
No - he already has a built transmission... he just needs the fuel and air mods.

Not really... this is essentially the package DD sells, and they rate it at 475RWHP.

Minus the transmission I hope to be real near the 500 HP mark with my daily driver. I run about 40,000 miles a year. I have $4200. 00 in mine plus the clutch. Of course that 4200 includes everything. ( intake, exhaust, gauges, etc. ) I started out with a rather low dyno number. My truck dynoed 236 stock

I have a question.

I have the EZ (set on 4) DD HX-40, AFE intake, Straight 4" exhaust, FASS, TST, and Luk clutch.

So far I am unable to get over 430 hp. That was on TST 4x5 EZ 4. Any higher on the TST made less power. Am I running out of fuel in the rail? Why at 430 on my truck... and 500 on others?

What is stopping me from going over 430???

The bigger turbo is essential for flow and durability. Here are two examples:

DD2 injectors, True Torque (pressure) box, DD pusher pump, DD Jammer turbo, ATS exhaust manifold = 472 hp. Replacing the TT box with the prototype Juice = 546 hp.

Usually run with setup #1, very driveable, low to no smoke depending on driving style and altitude, excellent mpg, very responsive.

It is easy to pick a number and say that is what I have to have. Further R&D may result in "adjusting" the goal to something that is driveable, economical, safe for the engine. This configuration may not be the most impressive on dyno day, but you can make a change like bumping up the power number on the box or changing the type of box for that day.

Yeah J. R. ,

Floor it has 591 with a Kwik spool B1.

I did 462hp with a stock turbo.

Twins aren't a must for 500rwhp, but they are nice to have (egt wise, spoolup etc. )

There is no need to have a HUGE turbo to make 500rwhp.
