Happy Birthday USMC!

Shooting at Fort Hood

I am getting a "silestone" kitchen counertop in a couple of weeks.

I am also installing a new dishwasher as part of the job.

My question is how to fasten the dishwasher to the underside of the stone?

Or do I find another way to secure it? ie sides or bottom

All I can think of is epoxy... or epoxy a wood strip and screw to that.

Anybody do this for a profession have some tricks of the trade?

Thanks in advance.

Jay

I am a custom cabinetmaker, which brand D. W. are you purchasing? The Meile's mount on the sides most others from the top I would have the top fabricator glue a piece of wood to the top or like in the old days we would install a "spreader" that would go between the two cabinets. Hope this helps

Just bought a Bosch at the local Sears appliance store.

The guy said it has brackets to mount on the sides. I have old fashioned built in cabinets from the 50s so there is plenty of meat to mount it to on the sides.

My back up is to epoxy a strip to the countertop as suggested.

I'll have it in place before the countertop is installed so I'll ask the installers to do that.

Thanks for the replies

Good luck with the Bosch . I work in a lot of expensive homes so I figured that was the cats puss . Mine old one had finally failed and told the wife let's splurge and buy a Bosch. Bad mistake it won't rinse the dishes fill up a glass under the R. O. tap and it suds rinse it once and it's fine tried the rinse/hold a few times that didn't do it. Recommendation buy a kitchenaid , Meile or. . . I got no satisfaction out of Bosch on this. P. S. build out the sides so they are flush with the sides of the Faceframe

I have a Bosch and Granite counter tops. When I installed the cabinets, I used a cabinet filler strip, putting the small finished edge out. Then screwed it in from each side before the counter top went on. I was then able to screw up into the filler strip and mount the dishwasher as one would normally do. This made the DW a slightly tight fit getting it in there, but has worked out great.

About the Bosch not rinsing the dished well, I would have agreed at one point. I have since found out that that stupid machine is just too smart for its own good! You can not rinse the dishes when you load them, and if you do rinse them you must dump a pot of coffee in there or something to dirty the water. It has a sensor in there and checks how dirty the water is. If there is no stuff in the water, it will cut the cycle short and leave soap on the dishes. Or if you don't run the kitchen sink water hot before starting the DW, it will also cut the cycle short. It has a predetermined temperature that it wants to get the water heated to. If the water starts out cold, it will try to heat it to that magic temp. but can't do it. Thus cutting the cycle short, leaving soap on the dishes.

Good luck, hope this helps!

I don't believe mine has any of those fancy sensors... I can't find any reference to those. I'm talking lower end of their line.

But I'll certainly be wary of those aspects and will do some experimenting.

They are top rated by consumer's reports, that speaks volumes but they are not always on the mark.

Thank you for all the constructive ideas.

I'm wondering how dishwasher features are analogous to military tactics.

I assume "silestone" is a Granite counter top.

I have Granite counter tops and a Whirlpool dishwasher. I mounted the dishwasher to the 2" x 3/4" hardwood rail under the Granite. I'm a building Contractor and that's the way we always mount them.

I'd consider taking the Bosch back and get a Sears Kenmore, which is made by Whirlpool. Stay away from LG.

Not granite... it is quartz and cpmposite. Sopposedly rates better than granite but time will tell. We had a couple of samples for color matching and as much as we tried to mark it or scratch it we could not. I did not try carbide or diamond, but any hardened tools I had couldn't put a mark on it.

Kenmore doesn't come close in the noise department. That was one of the top considerations. I've only read/heard good about Bosch until this thread actually. Neighbor has one and it lives up to it's consumer reports top billing.

So I guess I'll have to see how it goes.

I do thank all for the suggestions and solutions.
