I would like to install my GPS possibly together with radar detector. The Garmin Street Pilot has a small base which can be glued to the top of the dashboard. First it may not be the best place for it, second the glue on mine dried out.

Anybody glued something to the dashboard (what glue or patch ?)or installed some brackets to hold radar detector and/or GPS? Are some parts of the instrument panel / dashboard easily removable?

I installed my street pilot on the top on my dash, and I just use the portable mount for anything else. My mount wasn't dried out, so I just cleaned the spot real good with alcohol, and it stuck great. since yours has dried out, you can purchase a new permanent mount( 14. 00), or try some super glue, or it's equivalent. Also there is the velcro option.

I used a " Ram Mount ", and mounted my Garmin +III to my cup smoothie. I can see it very easy, and yes it still picks up the satellites.

Stick

I also used a RAM Mount but I mounted mine to the passenger air bag disable switch. I put the screws out of site on the switch housing. I will try to take a pic this weekend and post it.

Done ...

GPS is on my dashboard: Got some stick-on Velcro from Radio-Shack (the heavy duty kind) and one strip did the trick. Thanks for suggestions!

I mounted mine to the front of the smoothy and put a block of wood behind the plastic to beef it up. also put a remote antennae on the dash next to the vehicle id numbers. It worked with the antennae but much better with the remote ant,. Ran all cabels through carpet and put lighter outlet on hump in the plastic computer housing up over the go pedal for the speaker , works great.

I used a black Dash-mat to knock down glare, and stuck velcro on the bottom of my GPS... and CB... and R-detector. Pulls right off when you're parked/done with unit, leaving no residue etc.

PS you need the "wool-like" dashmat, not the foam one.

I have a Garmin 12 Map GPS. I mounted it to my dash using a combination of parts, and it worked out real nice.

First, I went to Panavise and bought the dash mount made specifically for my truck's dash. Then I went to Garmin and ordered the mount for the 12 Map. I disassembled the Garmin mount, drilled a couple holes to match up to the Panavise, and it worked out great.

My GPS sits at a perfect viewing angle, just right of the radio on my 2002. The Garmin mount is better than going with a generic "fit-all" type mount because it has a slot to hold the Garmin 12 volt power cord I already had. So, since the mound holds the cord, I just grab the GPS and pop it off the dash for anti-theft purposes. When I get back in the truck, it just pops back on since the cord is held by the mount.

If you are looking for creative ways to mount ANYTHING on any surface, you have to check out Panavise.

*This is the in dash mount that I used:
