In the last ten years there has been alot of improvement by the car makers attempt in rust controll. I find that a good car wash with an underbody spray is a must do in a state like Michigan. This state uses alot of salt on the highways and I run my truck throught the wash at least once a week. I am also a firm believer in a quality paste wax job 3 or 4 times a year. My truck is just short of 4 years on the road and has zero rust.

Well, I am a Ziebart believer. All mine go to the dealer before coming home. . and never had a problem.

That said- I have worked on quite a few that went bad-all because the applicator did a poor job. Very obvious that the rust got started in all the areas that were missed.

You can believe I am under there with a spotlight while its being done.

Good Luck-

try a product called fluid film its a natural product made of bee's wax, wont harm the paint and you can spray it everywhere. I'm sure they have a website

Never even heard of anyone having a rust problem in New Mexico.

No, but you guys, and Arizona too are the reason why they stopped making padded dashboards that would crack in the sun, and replaced them with cheap hard and noisy plastic.

Your window and door seals, tires, bushings, belts, hoses, crack from too much heat and ozone (maybe not so much ozone in New Mexico, like they do in Cali).

I live in the Northwest, where we have neither rust, nor excessive sun, so things look like new 15 years later (except for the moss and mold that can grow if you park it outside).

None of my trucks or cars have ever had a problem with dash, door seals, tires, bushings, belts and hoses, and I keep my vehicles a long time.
