Cold starting tips

Its becoming obvious that I have to build a "cheater" and that I cant keep using a 5 gal bucket to stand on when I work on my truck. Before I drag the table saw out from behind the Tool cabinet, is there any comments on "mechanic evaluators" Its going to be a little weird working on a platform, I can see forgetting and falling on your a** when you "walk" over too get a tool :{ Plus, something else to trip over when your not using it My arms just arnt long enough :)

AutoZone sells a device that hooks over the front tire and gives you a small shelf to stand on, that is the right height. I think its about $20. Can't beat that, and it is sturdy. Folds up flat, too.

I'm a little late on this one, but over at Sam's Club, they've been selling this small platform with a raised tool tray for like $25. Kinda looks like a short scaffold. Great for working on trucks of substantial height.

Why not just let air out of the tires? (only if you are able to pump back up and the truck will be down for a little while)

Yes they are very nice... I carry one in my truck. My son uses a couple at his repair shop.

I have one of those and I can say it is absolutely great. It's also great for washing your truck. You can reach your hood and windshield. I also like the fold away for easy storage.

You need eight foot legs, 10 inch fingers that are armored and every tool known to man!! Oh, and a light in your forehead would be nice too!

I built a little bench. It has enough room to walk around on a little. It's stable so it won't tip over easy when I'm struggling to reach something. It is a bit of a nuisance to store.

Carl,

You also need some fingers on your elbows.

Metal milk crate

I keep a metal wire milk crate in the bed with oil, antifreeze, etc, in it and I use it as needed as a stool.

I have used my old car ramps to stand on while reaching in, but it is a real pain in whatever you land on when they roll sideways. Oo.

Need Longer legs!

I have a 18in. two step stool from Lowes. It is plastic but is rated for 300 lbs and has rubber on bottom to prevent sliding. I weigh 240 and love it. I think it is about 10 bucks.

I've seen an engine compartment "creeper" advertised in one of the catalogs that allows you to lie on your stomach and the creeper arches over the fenders, so you can reach into the engine compartment. If I find a link, I'll post it. I've been considering it for a while, but don't know if it is adjustable to a height that will accomodate our trucks.

Like this?

Cheaper one...

Some day in my dream workshop I'd love to have a raised platform assembly that could be wheeled over a vehicle. It would have stairs and a big hole in the floor so you could lay down and work on whatever's below.
