So the backrest release on my front seat of my 98 Quad Cab broke today and of course it happened while the seat was rocked forward. The little cable that runs from the handle to the release inside the seat broke so I'm wondering if anyone know how I can release the seat to put it back until I can take it to the dealer to fix it.

Can anyone help.

It might be easier to move the passenger side seat to the drivers side. At least then you could drive your truck while the pars are on order.

azcummins,
Do you have club cab or quad or regular?
I take it that your whole seat back is leaning forward?
Don't know about 98. 5 but on 96 club cabs but seat will lean all the way forward to move seat forward or backwards if you push it all the way forward it mite return to oringial position.
An other thought look at rear bottom of seat
the adjusters should be close by. Will try to look at my manual tomorrow and my seat.

I have a 98 and it is the back of the front seat that is stuck forward. The release knob is connected to a wire which runs up into the seat which releases something so the seat will move. I can't see a manual release though.

MikeR- I already look dumb enough cruising with the seat forward, can't wait to see what the dealer says! Of course this happens the weekend I have company in town...

From looking at mine and the manual, pull the upholstery up on the seat back at the corner near the release handle and you will see some push in retainers on the top end of the rubber bellows. If you remove these, I think you may be able to pull the bellows down and find the release cable to be able to put the seat back in the upright position. I have not done this job but just trying to help. The manual does not cover a broken cable, just removal of seat back. They do warn not to activate the cable if you remove the pivot bolts as the spring will eject. bg ------------------

I traced the cable back this morning and I was lucky as it broke in the center so I was able to grab onto the wire that is still there and release the seat. I can't see how to release the cable for replacing, but I'll just leave the seat with the dealer and let them do it.
