Archived how to remove shifter 96 5 speed

How do you pull the shifter out of the transmission on a 96 5 speed. My hanes manual says to use some BS chrysler tool. Well, I aint got one.

i got it out. You gotta use 2 screwdrivers and turn the metal piece in the center counter clockwise as you push it down.

Just above that ring you are turning is a flat spot on the shaft. Tighten a crescent wrench on the flats, put another wrench above it (under the lip on the shifter) then pry the two wrenches appart. The painted shifter will slide off of the stub in the top of the trans.
